I received a signed photo from Ms. Page about a year before she died. I actually received two signed photosone from Sanford & Son, and one of her as herself, obviously a 1970's promo picture. She signed the latter'To Steve-
Watch It Sucker! Love Aunt Esther', and the other one just 'To SteveLove Aunt Esther'. What a treasure these two pictures are to me. She was great!
I'd love to find a CD of her nightclub act, because she was apparently as Dirty a comedian and as 'Blue' as Redd Foxx was doing stand-up comedy!

LaWanda Page was truly excellent as Aunt Esther in "Sanford & Son" and virtually everything else she was in. She has to have a space in the sitcom Hall of Fame. (Does one exist?)
I'd like to see her early-career performance as "The Bronze Goddess." I bet she did it well - I've always read good reviews - and looked good doing it.
Rest in Peace, LaWanda Page. And thanks for some of the best funny moments and memories from TV history. KH.

Most of her comedy albums are on YouTube now.

A true comedy legend, I have been laughing myself sick watching Sandford & Son on Antenna TV. Aunt Esther was as important to the show as Redd was.

I realize I'm responding to a years-old post, but I recall an episode of Sanford and Son where Fred and the gang put on a circus in the junkyard, and Aunt Esther did a little bit of that Bronze Goddess act.
Redd Foxx was a funny guy, no question, but his supporting cast on the show made him that much funnier. I'd read that the network wanted someone else as Aunt Esther, and Foxx fought for Page to have the role, as they were longtime friends. Can you imagine anybody else, uglied up as Page was, carrying a Bible and throwing around "fish-eyed fool" and "old heathen" like she did?
