I figure if you go to Grace Park's board, you are a fan of Asian actors.
The movie "Red Doors" is directed by an Asian director with an Asian cast. Please support filmmakers and crew of Asian descent. Come and watch the movie on the weekend of Sept 8.
RED DOORS is currently scheduled to open in three cities: New York (Sept
at the Angelika Film Center and at the ImaginAsian Theater, San Francisco (Sept 22), and LA (date TBD). The opening weekend numbers in New York will determine how wide and how long the film lives and where else it will be shown throughout the country.
Tickets are on sale online at http://www.reddoorsthemovie.com/ -

That's just silly. If I would go to a norwegian actors messageboard doesnt mean I like every movie directed and starred by scandinavians. -

That's because white people are seen as the default in western society. There's no "second thought" when it comes to watching white actors. If someone takes an interest in non-white actors, there's a likely chance that they are supportive of those kinds of actors. What the thread starter posted makes sense. I've seen plenty of people who post on one Asian actor's board and then post on other Asian actors' boards.

So if someone knows or posts on more than one Asian . . . they are into Asians or interested in Asians? They aren't just interested in actors?

If they were interested i2000n "just actors," then they wouldn't be using the term "Asian actors," now would they? -

Yes but you are the OP are the only one using the term 'Asian Actor', which still doesn't explain how if someone happens to look up an actor of Asian orientation it means they have some sort of special interest in them. In fact even using the term 'black actor' or 'Asian actor' doesn't mean you have a special interest when you describe them, it is just a brains way of trying to break things down.

There shouldn't be a "way to break things down" if one is just seeing these actors as actors. Who says, "Daniel Radcliffe is my favorite white actor"?
It's a fact anyway that a person who specifies that an actor is Asian or anything else is more likely to have a special interest in them. That's not an
absolute
guarantee, mind you, just that it is
likely
that they are interested in that ethnicity of actors.
Just look at any Asian-American or Canadian-American actor's board on IMDb and you will see threads like, "If you like this actor, then you might like this actor/movie" and the other actor or movie will be Asian. There's nothing wrong with having an interest. I get the vibe that you think these Asian actors are being fetishized or objectified. Most likely, it's Asian people who are making these threads on Asian actors' boards because they don't see many Asian actors in western media, especially American media, so it's cool whenever they see one, and they want to bring more awareness to Asian actors.
Of course, there are non-Asian people who do have an interest in Asian actors in a creepy way (it
can
be non-creepy, but it's often creepy: "Asian people/actors are so cool because they look fifty years younger than they really are and they have perfectly clear skin! I want to skin them and wear them as pajamas!").
Then there are the sad Asian people who use the Asian actors as a gauge for their own self worth. Some Asian guy posted a thread on Masayori Oka's board asking if "any of you white girls would date him?" Ugh. -

People who don't see white people as the complete norm they are surrounded by.
There is nothing wrong with noticing skin colour, or breaking things down by them so long as you are not measuring worth based on them. I have a friend who is Asian and he doesn't get offended when I mention him as an Asian friend any more than I do when he mentions me as a white friend.
To me it means little more than hair colour or age, it is just a way to break down and categorise. Nothing harmful in it.
I happen to, in general, find Asian men very attractive. I find them more attractive than I find other races, but I know very little about 'Asian actors' nor do i have a special interest in them. If you went up to a lot of white people and held up a picture of Lucy Lui and asked who she was the overwhelming response would be 'An Asian actress'. These would be people with no special interest, but they know she is an actress and they know she is Asian and 'different'.

I think that people are more likely to say that Lucy Liu is an actor rather than an Asian actor. -

Incorrect. People of any colour that are surrounded by people of another colour see them as different.
If a woman is carjacked by a white man she would say 'a man carjacked me' because that is how she sees it, if it was a black man it would most likely me 'a black man carjacked me' because to her his defining characteristic and the most obvious one she can remember is the colour of his skin.
If he was white she might remember his hair colour, build, height, facial scarring etc, but a black man the amount of memory recall is less and less.
Which is why cross-racial identification is some of the most statistically unreliable witness testimony.
It is, rightly or wrongly, simply how people view the world.

That's not a good comparison. One would have to describe a carjacker in order to bring that person to justice, so race plays a part of it. If you're just showing a picture of Lucy Liu to someone in the USA and asked that person who she is, they'd give her name, and when asked what she does, they would then say that she's an actor. There is no need to point out that she is an Asian actor. Now,
some
people might say that she is an Asian actor, for whatever reason, but most people wouldn't because why does pointing out her ethnicity have anything to do with her career or acting ability?
