She was born in LA, and has lived in Canada most of her life. Her name is Grace. I know Koreans, you are a very proud (haha), nationalistic (snickers) people. But take a deep breath and relax. Your people are just the same as everyone else. Calm down, you dont need to be represented everywhere or do good at sports and science. Nobody cares. There is not a game going on and people are not keeping tabs about how many times Koreans do this and accomplish that. Nobody cares about that barbaric chimpanzee crap outside of Korea. My tax dollars help pave her streets and give her health care. And when I see stuff like in her trivia that she considers herself "A Korean first" before a Canadian, I remember why there is so much racial tension here. That crap has got to end. If you are proud of Korea more than Canada - go live there.

I don't know you or anything about you, but based on your post I want to buy you a drink! Rightous indignation my friend! It's about time somebody broke with PC nonsense and spoke up.
You hit the nail on the head. Something to remember though - use a google search or other means to look up any interviews she has made and you will see a pattern of identifying with whoever she thinks her audience is. She has said things like "we in America", "I'm the token Asian", and even "I didn't wan't to marry a Korean man" based on who she happens to be interviewing with. Which would indicate she blows whichever way the wind does or has more personalities than Sybil.
Regardless, dont't sweat it. Her career longevity is in direct relation to how long the BSG series lasts - i.e. she's gone when it is. -

Yeah, I'm English, irrespective of where my immigrant parents are from (Ireland and Pakistan).
However this topic seems to have moved away from the original poster's issue of Sharon's name, as other posters have said, in the show, she's not from Korea or Canada, or the US. You're applying Earth's traditions onto a character who is supposed to come from one of the other 12 colonies in the storyline of the show. -

What's wrong with being proud of where you came from? What's wrong with being specifically patriotic towards your own heritage? There are plenty of Anglos out there they specifically state the same thing that Grace has said, but its OK when the Anglos do it because THEY are being patriotic so you say "Wow! That guy is put in your favorite anglo ethnic card and he is proud! Give it up to him!!!"
She's proud of her heritage. Leave it at that. Racial tensions occur because you guys can't let it go and accept the fact that we are all proud of where we come from. Some of us just voice it. Oh yea and also koreans are better so yea get over it. =P

It's an hilarious thread though because she comes from a planet light-years away (no Korea) and she died 150,000 years ago on our earth (when there was no such country as Korea and the Korean language did not even exist yet).
So yeah, OP, it would make
total
sense for a space alien who came to earth 150,000 years ago to have a traditional Korean name.
LOL! -

I've only read the OP's post. I'll quote it here.
"Actress Grace Park is Korean.
So why didn't they give her a Korean sounding last name to reflect her ethnicity, just like Harry Kim on Star Trek.
They gave her an Italian Last name. "
Her character doesn't have an Italian last name. Italy won't exist for a good 200,000 or 300,000 years after the last episode of the show. The same with Korea.
The ACTRESS is Korean. The characters she plays are Cylons that in most cases masquerade as humans. Her last name is one from the culture of the humans in the TV show.
Thus all stereotypical naming conventions go out the window.
It's been too long since I watched the show, so I don't remember which of the 12 colonies she thought she was from before she found out she was a Cylon (Was it Caprica) but if you must assign her a race, her 'race' the thought she had would be Caprican if she was from Caprica. Every character on the show, despite if the actor was black, white, asian or any other race considered themselves to be of whatever colony they were born on. That comes closest to the character's "race".
Or to put it another way, Boomer before she found out she was a Number 81c84 series Cylon isn't Asian. She's someone who thought she was (If she was from Caprica) Caprican (or whatever the right term is) but is really a Cylon. Neither "race" is Asian.
If you can't comprehend that, then just pretend she was adopted by Italians.
