Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — Butch Patrick

Ok, I don't mean the title in a bad way. Due to medical problems, Gary Coleman remained chubby cheeked & cute all his life. Michael J Fox was playing a 12 year old on some Canadian show at the same time he was shooting Back to the Future.
I remember Butch on the Munsters. Watching it growing up, I assumed Butch was about 11 when the show started & it turns out I was close. However I just got done watching the Phantom Tollbooth & that was made in 1970, so Butch had to be 17 yet he seemed just as young as in the Munsters. I also remember watching Lidsville where Butch would have been about 20 by the end & again seemed much younger.
So was the Phantom Tollbooth & Lidsville filmed when Butch was younger & then just released later? I guess I could see how the animation & live action aspects of Tollbooth might take a while in post production. If that wasn't the case, does it mean Butch was stuck with a baby face longer than most?

First, Fox was not on a Canadian show at the time he did "Back to the Future". He was into his third season of "Family Ties". However, he was playing a high school student at the age of 24. "The Phantom Tollbooth" was made in 1968, but wasn't released until two years later due to MGM having financial problems as well as not knowing how to properly market it. I thought that Patrick looked to be in his early teens when he did "Lidsville", about right.

Just saw him on Adam-12 playing a 12 yr old when he was closer to 16.
