I have "The phantom tollbooth" on Dvd and I have a hard time believing Butch was 17 playing a kid about 9 or 10 y/o in this movie! That or the phantom tollbooth was made a lot earlier in the 60's

To answer Cooke Fann, I was born 8/2/53, so I was 14 when we filmed this. I was 15 when we finished.
Chuck Jones sketched out a picture of the Roadrunner as a little gift for me, and he inscribed it as "The Phantom Roadrunner." This is one of my favorite possessions to this day.

Yes - the date of his birth, or at least the year is correct. I went to school with Butch in the 70's and remember him as quite nice, although aloof from all the other students, understandably, most of us did not have cars then, he had a lovely mustang (maybe a cobra or some customized-type vehicle). The most memorable interaction I had with him was when we where being "checked" by the head mistress of the school; girls: the length of our skirts, the boys: the length of their hair, and he was just behind me in the queue, but had a wig on trying to hide his longer hair, and he kept asking us, if it looked natural, and was any of his real hair showing through. At least at that time, he seemed like a regular high school student, aloof, but rather nice.
