Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — Alexander Payne

    Sugarsnap — 19 years ago(November 20, 2006 04:44 AM)

I would love to see Alexander Payne casting in his next few films:
    Clive Owen
    Edward Norton
    Christian Bale
    Harvey Keitel
    Gena Rowlands
    Jennifer Jason Leigh
    Ellen Burstyn
    Juliette Binoche
And also to keep using great actors like Jack Nicholson, Paul Giamatti, Laura Dern and Hope Davis!
How about you folks? Any suggestions for who Payne should cast in the future?

I think he should use Yvette Mercedes. I've seen her in Jesus' Son and in Dirt and numerous other movies. I think she's an interesting character. It would be most interesting to see how he would cast her.

I would love to see Payne use Edward Norton and Reese Witherspoon (who he directed brilliantly in Election) in one of his movies.

How come no one has mentioned Laura Linney? She's a natural! She's very good in the natural, real-life characters, and also good with the comedy. ("You Can Count On Me" is a very Payne-esque movie.)
I would love to see Michael Caine in a real-life Payne comedy. That sounds like a real good idea to mehasn't really done something like that since his "Educating Rita" days.
How about Maggie Gyllenhaal? Marisa Tomei?
And of course, any time he wants to re-use Hope Davis, Paul Giamatti or Thomas Hayden Church (or maybe some other "Wings" members ;).
BTWDoes anyone know how one could get ahold of the Payne?Taylor draft of Chuck and Larry? Would love a gander at that.

Steve Buscemi definetely. I also think Paul Bettany, Kate Winslet and Judi Dench.

I don't see the point in reading signatures.

Payne is one of my all-time favorite filmmakers, and I'd love to see him work with:
Johnny Depp (my #1 favorite actor)
                    Paddy Considine
                    Philip Seymour Hoffman
                    Oliver Platt
                    Steve Buscemi
                    Robert Duvall
                    Patricia Clarkson
                    Joan Allen
                    Diane Keaton
                    Gena Rowlands

Robert Duvall is a good suggestion.

Nice! 🙂 I'd like to see his buddy Nick Frost in one of Payne's films, as well.
                            Other picks:
                            Julianne Moore
                            Laura Linney
                            Cate Blanchett
                            William H. Macy
                            David Strathairn
                            Chris Cooper
                            John Turturro
Al Pacino (in an About Schmidt kind of role)
                            Robert DeNiro (ditto)

I thought that Virginia Madsen was transcendent in "Sideways". She effortlessly transitioned from her previous femme fatale roles to a true character actress.
