Just curious. Does he have any special degrees or anything?

And whose to say he couldn't/wouldn't of been working in the white house without celebrity status. Granted I dont think he would of chosen politics either.
And your statement, "Democrats never cease to amaze me". Well hell the same can be said about Republicans. Technically it can be said about anyone in politics, so the correct statement should be "Politicians never cease to amaze me"
Oh and you may not want to forget President Reagan was a celebrity that just happened to also be Republican and id say with 99% certainy that his celebrity status and the much more conservative based population (at that time) got him elected. Same could also apply to Arnold Schwarzenegger and others possibly, but those are the two main celebrities i can think of. Actually with that in mind, it would seem as if a republican with celebrity status has the leg up in politics. -

Sorry to break it to you. Kal Penn is not that big of a celebrity. I mean its not like they hired Tom Cruise or worst Lindsay Lohan. They hired someone who was educated and had the life experiences needed to understand the job that he was going to be doing. Plus he was already working the Obama campaign before he was hired and yeah maybe he is little bit regconisable but don't be so quick to think that he was hired because he played some doctor on house. His a really intelligent guy.

Kal Penn may not be A list but to say he is not a celebrity is stupid! Kal Penn has been in the successful Harold & Kumar series! Kal Penn also had a high profile role on the hit FOX show House. Also, Kal Penn has a B.A. degree from UCLA the man is educated. He is a lot more political than people realize. People need to separate the celebrity image from the real Kal Penn there is a difference.

Please don't call me stupid. For one thing I don't know you nor care to. So if you can't find a mature way to talk to me. Please don't then. Cause i wasn't even talking to you in the first place.

Well he's certainly more qualified than Obama is for his job. In my eyes, Obama will always be the eternal candidate. He's really never performed any of the jobs he's used as stepping stones to the presidency. I think he's used racial guilt to get himself a job he does not have the background to do well(see our economy, national debt, infrastructure, military morale, and shoving Obamacare down the throats of an electorate that never wanted it). And as far as Reagan and Schwarzenegger go, they both had more practical experience than Obama. Dont' forget that Reagan ran California, a state whose economy is larger than that of some countries, for several years before running for president. I'm just sorry Kal Penn doesn't have better judgement in picking his candidates. He does great with scripts. "The Namesake" was a truly beautiful and moving film. To parlay "Harold and Kumar Go To The White Castle" into that role is amazing. And he's done some nice work on "House". But unless he knows a way to write in a miracle, in Obama's next scene, Obama's program does not deserve to be picked up next season.

@susanjmaki357
Are you serious? Exactly what political experience did Arnold have before getting elected? None that I can think of? At least Reagan was a govenor before he became President, but don't act like his fame as an actor didn't help pave the way for him in some ways. Obama was a community organizer and a teacher (and yes, the former is a real jobdon't listen to these conservative idiots who insult it just because Obama was one.) "Racial guilt?" What an ignorant statementthe reality is, is that neither McCain or Palin were qualified to serve in the White Househell, even a lot of white people thought thatthat's why they didn't vote for either one of them.
Obamacare has made health care more accessible (and hopefully more affordable) to people that normally wouldn't have access to it. And unlike Reagan and Arnold, Obama actually had real jobs in the real world BEFORE he even got into politics. I'm sick of armchair critics who don't even know jack how the government is run, but all of a sudden they know it all just because they don't like Obama. Hell, you probably applied for it your damn self, so just shut the hell upha ha ha ha ha! -

Wasn't Ronald Reagan an actor and then became president and a republican I might add? Republicans never cease to amaze. -

So? Why shouldn't Kal Penn be chosen to act as a liaison to Asian-American groups and the arts community?
He has every requirement someone would need for that job.- He's educated. He got his BA at UCLA.
- He has worked as an educator. He was an adjunct professor at the University of Pennsylvania.
- He was a supporter of Obama during the election.
- He has already worked as a liaison to different Asian-American groups he did that when he was helping Obama get elected.
- He's an Indian-American who speaks Hindi not a job requirement, but it doesn't hurt.
- He's an artist and familiar with people in the arts.
His resume makes a whole lot of sense to me. Why wouldn't anyone hire a person with those qualifications to work as a liaison to Asian-American groups and the arts community?

You were going fine until you limited it to democrats. Trust me I have no love for democratic idiocy. They definitely have their own spin on asinine. But if you think the republicans aren't equally as vapid. I'm sure they would place people into important positions based on their personal relationship with imaginary beings. Not to mention Sarah Palin, who they were selling as VP.
It's a sign of the times. Front page news stories all over the country touting all the free an1908d happy gifts that will come from our new health care present (I'm all for what it can do for us), but they say it will be paid for with "some" taxes "on high income people" and savings in medicare. I work for medicare. It seems obvious with a failing system that if there was money to be saved WE WOULD HAVE BEEN DOING IT. The problem is that more people are taking than giving.
Sorry, rant (nearly) over. I wish it were as easy as democrats bad, republicans good. Even if I do prefer the fiscal conservatism, I'm just not willing to sell out to republican illogical gods and social retardation. It's such an obvious path to war for something not worth arguing about, much less waring about.
OH YEAH, my main point- What the hell does a "associate director of public engagement" do? How much does it pay? -
djhunted75 — 15 years ago(December 26, 2010 04:14 PM)
well to be perfectly honest, our medical system is broken because hospitals and doctors are charging more than the services are worth (granted you shouldn't put a price tag on health).
How can I come to this conclusion you might ask- Highly paid health care professionals that are able to afford $130k+ cars, 1/4+ million dollar homes, and extravagant vacations.
- Health care education is being overcharged for as well, thus resulting in those who graduate needing to make big $$ just to pay off their education.
- I am sure i could go on but ill just leave with this final point Why in the "F" does an ambulance ride cost between $500-$1,000 What in the world would cost a hospital anywhere near $1,000 (or even $500) to pick someone up in an ambulance and drive them even 10 miles to the nearest hospital.. It certainly doesn't cost anywhere near that much to pay the EMT(s), then supplies used shouldn't add up to that much, and i highly doubt they are paying that much for fuel As for supplies, the hospital would likely itemize any supplies used on an ambulance call (at least i think they would) and then bill accordingly, which of course they mark everything up to the max they can charge and not be super obvious they are ripping patients off.
Finally add in what the insurance companies do, and it is surprising that ANYONE making less than 200k a year can afford health care. Our health care system has needed an overhaul for many years, i just hope we are finally taking some steps in the right direction. Of course greedy republicans and special interest groups (i.e the ones profiting) will do everything in their power to keep the system just the way it is Broken.

haha its ironic, in australia 1/4 million dollar homes are the cheap as piss homes
the reason an ambulance cost's so much is to cover the fact that the ambulances have to be running 24/7 incase of emergency.
if one ambulance only has one patient all day that's a good thing and even though the ride may only take 10 minutes they aren't a taxi and they haven't been transporting patients all day to make there money
and B) it's supposed to act as a deterrent for those who have minor injuries clogging up the service, how would you feel if your significant other died of a heart attack because the other ambulance's were busy ferrying a kid with a broken arm
im not denying the healthcare system is mucked up but the issue is why would anyone become a doctor for no pay when in this day and age if you leave a scar that you hadn't informed the patient about before the surgery they'll sue your pant's off
Whats ridiculous about the healthcare system is that elective surgery takes the place of needed surgerys -

"working in the White House is a sign of the times, where your celebrity status is enough to get a job in a White House full of Democrats."
Yes - just like Arnold Schwarzenegger managed to get elected by virtue of his sterling record and work experience getting fatties to exercise while being a goodwill ambassador on the (then) President George Bush's(I) Board of Health and Fitness Department.
Still it could be worse - you could have a B-movie actor whose crowning glory was to star alongside a Chimp in a TV series to get elected President of The United States. Oh wait a sec ..
I'll give you one guess who was the party that nominated THAT fine example of American Manhood was! -

For Kal Penn too get a job working in the White House is a sign of the times, where your celebrity status is enough to get a job in a White House full of Democrats. Democrats never cease to amaze
Then Republicans must FLOOR you since last century they put an actor in the White House as the President.
