Eddie Murphy should have helped him out more

He should have given him parts in his movies, I mean, when eddie was starting in saturday night live, Joe helped eddie become a popular cast member, eddie should have returned the favour.

It probably was out of Eddie's control. He might've suggested Joe to the staff of movies he was in but they might've refused. An actor has very little power if Eddie had of done more directing he probably could have helped him out jobwise. The only thing he ever directed was Harlem Nights and really that was not a career making movie not to mention the cast was black dominated and none of the white characters except for Michael Lerner's "Bugsy Calhoun", Danny Aiello's "Phil Cantone" and Vic Polizos "Richie Vento" were the only ones that really stood out. It would have been more of a disservice to give him the character of an unnamed mob guy or cop.

All depends.
Back in the '80s after SNL, both were pretty successfulof course Eddie's career soared. I think Joe was content with everything. Joe seems more like a family guy who puts that first. So I can understand where he is at now. -

I read that Murphy started to feel that Piscopo was attaching himself to Murphy to advance himself. Later Murphy didn't just distance himself from Piscopo, but SNL entirely. I remember seeing Murphy on Arsenio where he would act like he was going to be a big music star. It probably burns him up that Jamie Foxx has had success in this area, whilb68e he is known for garbage like "Whatzupwitu"

While I don't think that Eddie had any obligation to put Piscopo in his movies, he had a hell of a lot of pull around that timje. Almost all of his 80's movies has a cameo by his Uncle Ray Murphy and Harlem Nights has two of his brothers in it. He could have pulled strings if he had to, but the same could be said of Mike Myers, or even Will Ferrell now.

I had taped the E! True Hollywood Story, where Piscopo had said that after Murphy had left, he didn't want to be at SNL anymore and that he wasn't the kind of person to ride on anyone's coattails. You may not see it this way, but I do think that they had a chemistry similar to Laurel and Hardy or Abbott and Costello. I see a lot of Piscopo in Amy Poehler, not so much character-wise, but rather the ability to bounce off of others, whether it's Maya Rudolph, Tina Fey, Seth Meyers and others.

Eddie Murphy did dump people and didn't look back. There was a show done about Piscopo's career and Eddie and his first fiancee Lisa was on it.The one that was going to be a doctor.Years later on she and Joe both hinted that soon after that Murphy started thinking his sh!t didn't stink and that friends and loved ones were supposed to kiss his ring & asss. When Piscopo's career was s16d0liding down he did want a bone from Eddie who by then was too BIG to be bothered. Then Joe sort of lost it himself.Started using steroids or something got pumped up, had dumped the first wife by then or she him,and was going to wrestle I think? I know Entertainment Tonight did a story on him and he was half bananas.Sort of upset all these people from SNL had hit it big while he,who was just as talented, saw his career fade.

I like the dude. he did some solid impressions in the SNL years that he was on the show. But, I don't think he was leading man material, and eddie murphy possibly could've tried and help him, but I don't think his career would've gotten that far as Murphy's. I mean right now, the dude is probably getting close to Chevy Chase's career point now.

The fact is Joe Piscopo was a colossal, Hollywood-sized jerk back during SNL. He thought he was everything and treated people like they were beneath him. He was supportive of Eddie during that time, but he didn't really do anything for him. Eddie got on the show by calling in and demanding an audition. He got stuff written for him by his own two writers on the show. Where was Joe in making him a star so that he owed something to him?
If Joe was going to be a star he should have done it on his own strength, instead of burning every bridge available despite having only modest talent. And the idea of pulling somebody up as some kind of favor is just not how Eddie Murphy's mind works. He's just not that kind of guy, and especially at 21, he was playing some kind of old school crony game, where he tries to pay off all his showbiz acquaintances with movie roles. If they really were friends don't you think he could have asked Eddie for a favor? But they weren't, so Joe got what was coming to him.
