Eddie Murphy should have helped him out more

Eddie Murphy did dump people and didn't look back. There was a show done about Piscopo's career and Eddie and his first fiancee Lisa was on it.The one that was going to be a doctor.Years later on she and Joe both hinted that soon after that Murphy started thinking his sh!t didn't stink and that friends and loved ones were supposed to kiss his ring & asss. When Piscopo's career was s16d0liding down he did want a bone from Eddie who by then was too BIG to be bothered. Then Joe sort of lost it himself.Started using steroids or something got pumped up, had dumped the first wife by then or she him,and was going to wrestle I think? I know Entertainment Tonight did a story on him and he was half bananas.Sort of upset all these people from SNL had hit it big while he,who was just as talented, saw his career fade.

I like the dude. he did some solid impressions in the SNL years that he was on the show. But, I don't think he was leading man material, and eddie murphy possibly could've tried and help him, but I don't think his career would've gotten that far as Murphy's. I mean right now, the dude is probably getting close to Chevy Chase's career point now.

The fact is Joe Piscopo was a colossal, Hollywood-sized jerk back during SNL. He thought he was everything and treated people like they were beneath him. He was supportive of Eddie during that time, but he didn't really do anything for him. Eddie got on the show by calling in and demanding an audition. He got stuff written for him by his own two writers on the show. Where was Joe in making him a star so that he owed something to him?
If Joe was going to be a star he should have done it on his own strength, instead of burning every bridge available despite having only modest talent. And the idea of pulling somebody up as some kind of favor is just not how Eddie Murphy's mind works. He's just not that kind of guy, and especially at 21, he was playing some kind of old school crony game, where he tries to pay off all his showbiz acquaintances with movie roles. If they really were friends don't you think he could have asked Eddie for a favor? But they weren't, so Joe got what was coming to him. -

Eddie Murphy and Joe Piscopo are still friends to this day, as I understand it. Eddie also has a habit of leaving the past in the past, for better or worse. As for their careers- Piscopo had limited talent- not to say he's untalented as he's very funny, does good impressions, is reasonably versatile, etc. but he doesn't have the leading man qualities of Murphy and as for people asking why Murphy didn't stick Joe in any of his movies- go through Murphy's filmography and show me the roles Joe Piscopo would have fit. I dare you to find more than one role Joe Piscopo would have been an even half decent fit in, assuming it wasn't a leading role and I guarantee you can't name any.
Face it- Joe Piscopo's talents didn't have legs in Hollywood- Joe knew it, Eddie knew it, we knew it.
you people gotta stop living in the past- the fake past, no less.

EXACTLY! How many white stars ditch their black counterparts. Lets face Eddie was funny and SUPER talented, while Piscopo can't act to save his life. Watch the movie "Dead Heat if you don't believe me, he doesn't deliver lines properly, like an amateur. I'm sure Eddie tried to help him, introduced him to people but a MAN has to carry his own weight.

By the 1990s Eddie Murphy couldn't help Eddie Murphy's career much less anyone elses. Murphy was at the helm of bomb after bomb. Even if his films did make money they gave only modest returns at best.
If you want to play the white/black thing, well Murphy didn't exactly help out Arsenio Hall much either. -

Piscopo was/is a sycophantic weirdo who acts buddy buddy with everyone acting like they're best friends, which is exactly how he acted with eddie but its unclear just how much Eddie actually LIKED Joe Piscopo. Considering Eddie hasn't even mentioned him ONCE since leaving SNL suggests they weren't as chummy as Piscopo would have you believe. Few things to consider:
- There is a disturbing air of desperation and a complete lack of self awareness that surrounds him (youtube Joe Piscopo and Opie and Anthony), this kind of warped personality obviously would not have been good for Murphy's career at the time.
- his "humor" doesn't fit Eddie murphy film humor,
- he isn't funny.
- lets face it Eddie couldn't stand him.

I don't know why people think the entertainment business is any different than any other business. I have worked with people who after I got a much better job tried to do my best to recommend them, offer to use me as a reference, help them with their resume, etc. But sometimes some people can't be helped or they don't have the same goals. I've recommended good friends to great jobs and sometimes they did a half attempt to apply for them, or they didn't apply at all for some entirely silly reason in my opinion. It wasn't like Joe was stuck in the sticks and had no contacts, he was on SNL and was a household name at that point. He had to be popular otherwise he wouldn't have been in those TV ads. It is logical to assume he had an agent at that time and likely a manager to guide his career. It doesn't matter how much of a friend Eddie Murphy is or was, their goals111c were not compatible. We didn't see Eddie Murphy get into body building and focus almost entirely on that.
