J.P. Pitoc is straight (as is Christian Campbell, his co-star in
Trick
). Jim Fall, the openly gay director of the movie, joked that he had to give J.P. lessons in "Gay 101" while they were filming, including such touches as unbuttoning his pants before laying temptingly across the bed. As you can tell from the finished film, J.P. caught on fast! There was a lot of publicity about J.P. when the film first came out, mainly in the gay press.

telling people you are gay or str8, what difference does it makes? which hot actor in the right mind would come out as gay, even if he was? what is most important is that who you want to get off with. but even if he is gay, do you honestly think you can get him into bed, so what's the big deal about being out?

well, so far not a lot of actors playing gay characters are gay. Most closeted actors shy away from gay roles as it hits too close to home and then they would have press always on their back trying to find out. But people like Rupert Everett and half the cast of Queer as Folk, who are out love to play gay roles just as much as they love to play straight roles. Also, if you see an actor in more than one gay role it doesn't mean they are gay, it just means they enjoy playing a character completely different from themselves. The guy who played Dr David on Queer as Folk turned up in Will and Grace as Will's ex Michael and then played a gay role in a small Indie film, but is in fact straight. Sean Hayes, who I believe is gay but have no proof, starred in Billy's Hollywood Screen Kiss and then immediately went to Will and Grace. Trust me, if a white actor could play a black actor they would, but it wouldn't make them black. Acting is a passion as well as a job.

I don't have a big problem with this because I know that acting means just that.Being able to assume any role convincingly is the true heart of any real actor. But sometimes I wish more gay actors could play the gay roles in order to reinforce the gay community's idols of gay performers.I know, for instance, that every time I watch Will & Grace and I am routing for and am a fan of Will, I am a fan of, in fact, a straight guy playing a gay role.I really wish, however, that I could be a fan of a gay man playing a gay role because then I would know that part of the charactor of Will is being performed with actual experience by the performer as a gay man rather then just good acting and nothing more then good acting. But I still salute the talent of the act.

LOL! Somebody must be pretty upset on this thread because their posts keep getting deleted.
John Paul Pitoc has a cameo in Under The Tuscan Sun. Hes one of the people on the bus during the gay cruise/tour thing. You can see him when the main character lady stands up and is introduced to the group has "having just divorced her husband" or something
