He's usually off my radar, so wouldn't know. I just saw the statement in the press today and noticed it was a US spelling.

I did consider that. The way to establish if it was deliberate would be to check previous messages of support for either the US or Canada. I don't have the will to browse through insincere royal platitudes all day to find another example.
