Very Sad news. It's like Yoko-14 said; few knew his name but most will definately remember his face. A lovely actor.
My condolences to his friends and family.

Very sad to hear about Robert Prosky. I mostly remember him from his stint on Hill Street Blues in the 80s "Let's do it to them before they do it to us."
I also remember him as "Bear" in The Lords of Discipline an underrated 80s flick that I think only I liked.
My prayers for his family. He'll be missed.

R.I.P. to one of our finest character actors.
This has been a horrific week of losses for show business. Nina Foch, Beverly Garland and Forrest J. Ackerman have all passed away within the last 7 days.
            My heart is breaking.

Agreed with all the sentiments so far. Along with Philip Bosco, one of the great modern 'oh THAT guy' character actors. Always could be relied upon to bring a warmth and grandfatherly humanity to every role he took on. You will be missed Robert!!

Man, what a sad news. Robert was UNFORGETTABLE in Michael Mann's THIEF ; his portrayal of Leo was one of the most scariest performance ever. It's a terrible loss for american cinema.
                      May he rest in peace.

YES Glumpy, LOL I seem to always "glump" them together. 🙂
Anyway, I see Robert was in a gazillion things.however, he is in two of my fave movies of all time Mrs. Doubtfire and Rudy. Just caught him a few weeks ago in the old movie Outrageous Fortune, he looked so young and it was only 6 years before Rudy and M.D.
RIP Robert you have given me many smiles from your perfomances in Rudy and Mrs. Doubtfire, I've watched them a lot!
Also, very cool that you had a house in Cape May, one of my fave places in my state 🙂

I loved him in "The Love She Sought," as he played a "progressive" priest with Angela Lansbury playing a Catholic school teacher "who took her religion 'straight up.'" I watch that movie over and over (made abt 1995). As a sidenote, it's the very first time I ever saw Cynthia Nixon (of "Sex and the City" fame) in a movie; she was a very young unwed pregnant girl who had come to spend the last term of her pregnancy with her teacher.
Robert had a joyful enthusiasm in "The Love She Sought" that I can't help but think was part of his "real life." The loving comments by his family are very heart-wearming; I am always happy to hear that an older person who died was still living with his wife
