Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — Valérie Quennessen

I did not know Valrie Quennessen. Tonight I have seen in television Summer Lovers, and I liked this girl. I discovered in IMDB that she passed away in an accident in 1989. It is a true pain, I'am shocked. She was a beautiful girl, and Summer Lovers is very sexy '''

Makes two of us. Like you, after seeing Summer Lovers I went to IMDB to see what else she had been in and was shocked and saddened to learn of her passing. It is a shame there are not more tribute pages to her. I also have not seen an obituary. I know the Internet was not available to the masses in 1989 when she died, but there should be more pages deadicated to her memory. She was so beautiful and had the most fabulous eyes. More people should know about Valerie Quennessen.

Thanks for that piece of information. I hope her children are doing well and know how much their mother is missed. I wish someone would create a more indepth tribute page for her.

Not al all friend. I think that you will find this interesting:
Valerie Quennessen - regarding her death
            http://movies.groups.yahoo.com/group/summerlovers/
            Thu Jul 22, 2004 12:32 am
            Hi all:
I've been a member of this board for several years but don't recall
having posted anything. Here are two items concerning Valerie
Quennessen that will be of interest to everyone.
There has been speculation that Ms. Quennessen in fact has not died.
Several years ago an Australian chap by the name of Neil Cannon, who
maintains a wonderful web site in her memory, emailed to me the fact
that a magazine, Upbeat, was going to publish an article about her.
Just in the past few days I contacted the magazine to see what they
determined regarding her death. Here is their response:
            Dear George,
Unfortunately, for various reasons, all of which were ethical and
moral, we decided not to pursue the article as we didn't feel it was
appropriate, given the fact that her family still silently grieves
over the sudden loss of such a bright and talented young woman. I
personally spoke with Valerie Quennessen's younger sister [who was
extremely forthcoming] for quite some time and I believe, beyond the
shadow of a doubt, that Valerie was indeed killed in a horribly
tragic car accident. Her sister spoke of the tragedy with such great
sorrow, especially for the two children that Valerie left behind,
            her niece and nephew respectively.
This is a family that still grieves. Parents that lost a child
[which is perhaps the most devastating occurrence that a parent must
endure], children who had their mother ripped away from them before
they could understand what a remarkable lady she truly was, a sister
who still feels the pain of something so unexplained. We believe
they should be left in peace to find a way to live with the
obviously empty space that Valerie left behind.
I understand that she had such a strong fan following and was
perhaps on the precipice of reaching stardom, only to have her light
extinguished This is something that none of us will ever hope to
understand but life is not always fair and tragedy strikes without
warning. Bruce Lee, James Dean and so many other young hopefuls
die without valid reason or cause and often we are left to search
for something to explain it all But we must stop and remember the
amazing gifts these stars shared with each of us during their brief
time here because no matter how much fame or fortune a person
achieves in one lifetime, what truly matters in the end is how we
treated one another. That being said, we felt that Valerie's family
and friends deserved to find their peace in their own time, on their
own terms, which is precisely how we left it with her sister, open-
ended. If she wanted us to write a tribute, we would, all she has to
do is call when the family is ready. I believe this should be
respected as Valerie herself would have wanted it that way.2000
I do hope this helps in some way.
Bridget Petrella/Publisher, UPBEAT Entertainment News Online
Bridget's words were so beautiful that I asked, and received,
permission to distribute them on this group.
My personal story concerning Valerie is this: Back in the early
1980s, after having seen Summer Lovers numerous times, I wrote to
the US company that distributed this film for an address to which I
could send a fan letter. They provided me with an address in Paris,
and so I wrote to her. In response she sent me a nice autographed
photograph of her which I am posting on this group. If it does not
post you can see it at:
            http://host45.ipowerweb.com/~eye-goug/vquennessen.jpg
In 1998 I spent several weeks in Paris and patronized an internet
cafe which had an address that was just a few digits off from the
address provided to me by the US distributor. This address was for a
private residence rather than a corporate office. When I walked by I
could not see any names listed at the front door. This apparently
was one of those Parisian residential buildings where a door at the
street opens into a court-yard, and several separate residences
surround the court-yard. I can say that the exterior of the
building looked very nice, and was located across the street from
            the Luxembourgh Gardens.
            Best wishes to all.
            George aka Krinkovliu

              WOW!
That was nice of the magazine to respect the familys wishes. I could only imagine how much it would hurt a grieving family when there is speculation their daughter, sister and mother is still alive. I hope her family realizes how much we all miss her. I hope they someday the family decides to allow a tribute to be written. Valerie was truly special and I hope the next generations learn of her.

Director John Milius on Valerie Quennessen: "Valrie Quennessen came by Willard Huyck, who made French Postcards. I knew her when she made that film. Her test of reading for the princess was very good. She was Very distressed. She has sensuality and innocence. She is very good".
