Unlike the media, the majority of impulsive wagon jumping peeps on here making it an gay issue and GLAAD; Don't assume I mean that pathetic slip up alone, the more serious issue of his lying and misogynistic dialogue regarding Olivia Munn. There's also quite a bit more the media aren't reporting on.

I hear that word said by other people ALL OVER THE WORLD.
No you don't. The word is specific to the English spoken in North America.
What damage? You can't be serious! He used the word fag. I'm pretty sure you will hear someone say it today and you probably won't even care but when a celeb does it o boy the world is falling apart.
You're being disingenuous. Some numbskull on a street corner using the word doesn't give it any validity; a celebrity using it, if they were to go unchallenged, creates an air of approval around any kind of slur and promotes its propagation. You know this.
People are just to sensative and need to grow a backbone.
Or perhaps people need to stop making excuses for bad behavior, and stop trying to put the blame onto those who are pointing out why it's unacceptable.
You might very well think that. I couldn't possibly comment. -

i guess you all never say course words , come on! fag is just another course word, dont tell me you all have never said that word before, and you never say other bad words.
In the movie "Stuck on you" one of the characters yells out the phrase "you fag" to another of the characters and nobody complained about that movie, because that's just another bad word and people in movies say a lot of bad words and it seems that American audience loves that kind of words.
And yes, ALL OVER the world people say the word fag, at least its equivalent depending on the language, for example in Spanish the word is 'marica', and nob68body cares if someone say that word.
if you don't like certain course word you should agree to avoid saying all the other existing bad words in the world because all of them are offensive, for example the b**** word, or f word c word, etc. dont tell me you dont say those words. if you dont you must be a very polite and holy person.

Yea, the 'N' word was widely used & still is used and that doesn't make it right. It was used commonly, then it became wrong & now it's illegal here in NYC. The same will happen with the f word as well. Mark my words.

Excuse me? Using that word is as damaging to some people in the gay community as the N word is to the African American community and Jewish slurs are to that community. Think before you speak! It is NOT OK to use the F word!!!

When did it become so wrong to say the word "fag?" Honestly, it's a simple insult, and gay people get WAY too defensive about it. What's next, people will m5b4ake it so you can't even call them fat now? Oh wait, that's already happened too

It's like saying the N word to a black person. It was alright to say that in the 50's then it became wrong; now here in NYC it's illegal. That's how these things work. What backwater part of the country r u from?

it is not ''wrong'' by any law. You are confused, wrong and right do not exist, for they are subjective. You meant ''legal'' and illegal .illegal and ''wrong'' are definitely not synonyms. All the criminals, and there are half a country filled with criminals, because every second person has walked on a red light at least once in their life or broken some law in society. They do not consider themselves wrong, lol, nor does the law state them as ''wrong''. the law says ''illegal''. I walk on the red light often enough and break other society laws as well all the time, people I know do it as well nor consider it wrong.Though we all know it is ''illegal'' haha, but not wrong.
wow,NYC must be real prudes to go as far as illegalizing a word.Soon enough they might strip you of all freedom of speech to the point where you lose all your rights if you let them, under the disguise of ''safety'' and political correctness. As your president once said ''Those who give up a bit of freedom for a bit of safety deserve neither and will lose both'' - this man was self-righteous about the ''deserve'',yet spot on otherwise.
hate-speech and degradation on purpose of minorities, like blacks, latinos, transvestites, gays, even women etc should be regulated as far as reporting the person if you want to etc,but if someone just uses curse words like ''fag'' towards another straight guy knowing he is straight. It is a jab insult, the modern day meaning also referencing ''that is so gay dude'' -meaning that is something of a stereotype that a gay would knw/do,for ex buy some tight colorful clothes(a stereotype, yet poignant to insult a straight guy, implying he likes colorful tight clothes)
Point being,if someone directs the insult fag towards someone who is not gay, then it is not a hate-crime towards you as a minority, because you ain't that minority. If you just get your ego hurt, then that alone is hardly a ''crime''. The word used towards a gay man in a belittling way is a bit of a different story, obviously, not superficial as it is towards a straight guy.
as for Negro (n e g r o ),it is literally latin for ''black''. NEGRO means BLACK,literally. It is still used worldwide, especially in Russia and former USSR countries as a description much like the word ''black'',especially since for ex my country has maybe a couple of hundred black men living here,so to differentiate someone quickly for the sake of clarity in a conversation, one just says ''that cool negro guy Suzy was with the other day, along with 3 of her friends and 2 of his friends'' - then right away everyone knows who you mean. Rarely do they use word black, because it is a much longer word to pronounce in russian or estonian, they use negro(neeger, negar-russian). Now the word beep is a SLANT,and is used primarily only in North America as a racist inferiority insult. the word negro however,neveda0r was and is not an insult word, except maybe clueless people in America who don't even know what the word means and that it is not the word beep -

Sheesh, Genose, think for a minute.
It's not just a "simple" insult. Supposing it was a word that summed up something about you? Let's say, from your screen name, "wop". (You may not be - I'm just using that as an example.) Now suppose the name, like "fag", summed up an attitude that said you were not normal, not competent, not how you "should" be; that you deserved to be fired from your job, ridiculed in the street, even bashed and killed just because someone else saw you as a "wop", and that most people around you took a "serves you right" attitude about it, the law made it OK for them to do so, and the police openly laughed at your attempts to even make a complaint about it
Can you honestly not see that it's far more than a "simple insult"?
You might very well think that. I couldn't possibly comment. -
