His character on the X-files was cool. Alec Baldwin did a great impression of Charles Nelson Reilly on Saturday Night Live.

It's weird to be that affected by the death of someone you did't know but I'm really sad. I guess it's a testament to his art and the way he touched us. It's trivial I know because he will keep living for us through his work whereas his loved ones have lost him forever but I'm glad I'll be able to enjoy his great performances over and over again. He made me smile like very few can.
Another little light goes out and the world grows a little darker still

When I read this now I actually cried out "NOOOOOO!" I loved this man! He was truly a rare character in the world of entertainment. I live in Norway so I haven't seen much of the US gameshow stuff he did so personally I started being a fan after seeing him in reruns of "The Ghost and Mrs Muir" on British Sky Channel back in the 80's. Have seen some of his gameshow stuff later though and that only helped seal my affection for the man. Not long ago I was thinking about him and I can't believe he just died. I am also a bit annoyed with IMDb who put the news at the bottom under the headline "gameshow star Reilly dies&1908quot; Wtf.. Made it sound like it was some two-bit gameshow host. I clicked on it expecting to read about some other person named Reilly and was horrified when I realized it was Charles.
Here is a quote by Reilly I found on his IMDb-page:
When I die, it's going to read, "Game Show Fixture Passes Away". Nothing about the theater, or Tony Awards, or Emmys. But it doesn't bother me.
          (end quote)
As far as IMDb's news page goes he was right 😕 What an insult to such a great career. Charles Nelson Reilly was a film actor, a veteran comedian of television (where he shared scenes with legends like Lucille Ball etc) and most importantly he was a great Tony award winning stage entertainer. On top of this he was a solid stage director and in his 60s even delivered one of the most memorable guest-stars on the tv-show "The X-Files". He was anything BUT just a "gameshow star".
Rest in Peace Charlie. You were brilliant! And if it helps, you were the greatest "game show fixture" in the history of planet Earth.

There's no question about it - Charles Nelson Reilly was the funniest man on the planet. Even though he was 76, that's still much too young to die. I was expecting him to keep me laughing until he was well into his 80s. The planet will be a lot duller without him.
I never got to see his one-man show, but hopefully, "Save it for the Stage: The Life of Reilly" will be out on DVD soon.

R.I.P. Charles. You were one of the people I grew up seeing on T.V. in the 1970's along with Gene, Richard and Brett and everyone else on Match Game; you were always a character and entertaining at that. Thank you for everything you did to make us laugh.

From Match Game to Lidsville to Ghost & Mrs. Muir to the X-Files, you always stole the scene with your captivating presence. RIP Charles Nelson Reilly. You'll be missed.

I just read about it. What is strange is that one of his quotes mentioned that when he died all they are going to is Game Show Fixture CNR has died. Look at what the IMDB wrote Game show star dies. I loved him he was always so funny. He will be missed a lot. His fans knew he was mouch more then that. I just noticed he shares my fathers birthday.

I sooo loved him, whether it was on Love American Style, Millennium/X-Files, Cannonball Run 2 (I actually loved that film! haha), The Love Boat, Laugh-in, and yes, of course, Match Game. He was my first human crush (Popeye was first??) and whenever I saw him cameo in something, he just made me smile.
CNR, you will be dearly, dearly misseda comedic genius
