Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — Charles Nelson Reilly

As I recall, he filed a lawsuit for emotional distress because everyone stood around and laughed at him even though he'd really hurt himself.
Loved him in Lidsville, Match Game and on the X-Files.

This is sad but true. And Mr. Reilly, trouper that he was, eventually made it a joke and used to tell a side-spliting story about it. Sadly, those who knew Charles, also knew that he never really recovered from the injuries. I think he broke a hip which never healed properly and eventually needed replacement. Prior to the fall, he was active in the Coast Guard and he was an ace on the water. After, he was unable to fully enjoy it.
Last time I saw him was at the Irish Rep in Manhattan a few years ago. He looked even more frail than I had seen him in Summer 2000 in Burbank. I think he was in a lot of physical pain in NY and he stopped touring with his successful show shorty thereafter, even though he'd had offers from Europe and Austrailia to do it there. At any rate he was a lovely, lovely man and will be missed by many friends.
