Does anyone know any personal information about this fabulous actor? Is he married, attached, any personal information? I have been spellbound since he was in "Fifteen Minutes." I think he's the cat's pajamas. And what's the deal with dubbing his voice in "Blade II'?

It's hard to find anything personal about Karel Roden because he does not like to do interviews. I don't remember ANY interview with him at all.
I don't want to spoil anything, but check those people: Ivana Chlkov, Jana Krausov and Jan Kraus. (Hint: Consenting Adults (1992)) -

I remember reading an extensive interview with him right after "15 Minutes" came out that was pretty in-depth, but of course it didn't have any real personal information about him, just stuff about his childhood and his start in acting, etc. And if you put his name in a search engine most of the ab68rticles that come up are in Czechoslovakian. I did get an answer one time from a girl in Poland or somewhere I believe, and she said he lived somewhere in Czechoslovakia in a house with a nice garden and that he lived with somebody, but that was all I was able to find out.
I checked out the people you mentioned, I noticed they were all Czech actors also, do they have something to do with Roden (except maybe Jan Kraus)?

Well, I'm from Czech Republic (Czechoslovakia split 11 years ago) so I should know at least something about Czech actors.
I am a bit ashamed to reveal the secret, but the solution of the puzzle is this:
Karel Roden studied DAMU witb68h Ivana Chlkov and he lived with her several years. (They even appeared in several films and TV produtions together.)
Then something happened and they split. As far as I know K.R. now lives with Jana Krausov (she can be seen with him in IMDB photo gallery) in Prague, while Ivana Chlkov lives with Jan Kraus (Jana's ex-husband). -

Well thank you, G. of E., for the "solution to the puzzle." I would have been going around in circles online if you hadn't solved it for me. I know that K.R. values his privacy and I can respect that completely. I was just fascinated by him when I first saw him in "15 Minutes" and I guess I'm just spoiled by the internet and IMDb and being able to find information on almost anyone, and I couldn't find a single thing on K.R.!
Nice to mee2000t you, G. of E., do you still live in the Czech Republic? I am not very educated, unfortunately, on the political and governmental happenings in Europe. I sometimes have a hard enough time keeping up with what's going on in the U.S. government!

You are right - it almost seems that there's already everything on the internet, but sometimes it just takes too long to find the right page (in the right language).
I still live in Czech Republic and I have to admit that if Nebraska would split to Nebra Republic and Ska I wouldn't notice it either.
(Both Czech Republic and Slovakia will officially become members of European Union in May 2004 so it will not matter anyway.)

Hi,
I agree, he is fantastic actor.
I do not think he ever married, but he is in a healhty relationship with Jana Krausova, with whom he does a gret job by playing teather, hes much better in theathers than he is in the movies.

Thanks for the info! I've hardly been able to find anything about him online, tho I did find a person here on the IMDb message boards who's from the Czech Republic and gave me some information about Karel. He is a fantastic actor, isn't he? I just love him.

I agree that Karel Roden is great actor. His performance in Hellboy, Bulletproof monk, Bourne Supremacy and especially in 15 minutes is GREAT. I admire him. Robert De Niro himself choosed him for this film 15 minutes. Ive read it in magazine once. He didnt play much till this time, but it is difficult not to remember his face, his eyes.

I agree wholeheartedly, Karel Roden is a good actor: a great actor, but there are two kinds of good screen actorsthe kind who need multiple takes to get a scene right and the kind who get it right the first time every time. Karel Roden is of the latter variety. I know this because I had the privilege of photographing him on the last project I ever worked on before a stroke forced me into retirement.
Under very difficult production conditions and while Karel was performing in one or two live theater productions in Prague he managed (with very little sleep) to be the bad guy along side Michael Sarrazin (also a wonderful actor and human being) in Hostage Train. Not only is Karel a fine actor, but behind the scenes he proved himself to be a kind polite gentleman. Now, as during the shooting of that film, I consider Karel Roden the equal any of the greatest actors that Hollywood has ever produced. -

I think he is an amazing and truly gifted actor. I must admit embarrassingly that I've come to know his work only recently. He changes his appearance so often (I guess that's how you can tell a true actor is when they inhabit their character) that it is so hard to know everything he is in. Do you happen to know if there are web sites devoted to his career? I would like to know more about his career and upcoming projects he is in. Thank you for any help you can give me.

I'd never heard of Karl Roden until i invested in the film 'The Last Drop' (which should be out in April of this year),he is one of the main characters in the film,and i agree that he is one quality actor.i certainly will be checking out some of his other films.
Definately check out 'The Last Drop' when it comes out as it is a very good british made movie(it also has Billy Zane,Michael Madsen,Tommy Flannaghan,Sean Pertwee,Nick Moran and a host of other great actors)

well, as I am from the same country, I know something about his private life.
Lived with actress Ivana Chlkov approx. 15yrs ago, but now is living with another actress/artist Jana Krausov, who was married to actor Jan Kraus,now living with Ivana. Confused? Anyway,they all are good friends, seeing each other
very often. KArel and Jana make a wonderful couple, much nicer than with Ivana.

Karel Roden is mostly known in the Czech cinematography as more or less the only really really good actor, who is acclaimed even abroad and above all overseas. This the dream of most of the Czech actors. However, Karel made it with his natural intellect and skills.
Personal info: currently married to Jana Krausova, the ex-wife of a czech actor and host of his tv-show Jan Kraus (very good), who is now married to the ex-wife of Karel Roden Ivana Chylkova. Can you follow? They're all actors and all of them are very good, in my opinion.
Karel gained his popularity with the role of a young student in the nowadays already tetralogy called "Jak basnici", he also starred in some minor fairytales like Fantagiro. His roles are usually pretty much negative, but he even looks like a mad villain He is a very private person, so nobody knows that much about him, his work speaks for him quite well.

Hey, Karel is Czech (just like myself) and back home we know much more about him.
He has long term partner (she's an actress and sculpturor). Funny thing is that he used to date one of the most favorite Czech actresses (Ivana Chylkova) but then former partner of his current girlfriend and Karel swapped their chicks;)))
