Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — Fran Ryan

Fran Ryan is one of the greatest character actresses there was, I always liked her in the tv serieses and films she starred in. Her most memorable roll was in the 1960s hit series "Green Acres" as Doris Ziffel, in the 1970s children's series "New Zoo Revue" as Mrs. Goodbody, on "Gunsmoke" and in the 1980s short lived tv series "The Wizard" as Tillie Russell.
I remember watching "The Wizard" back in 1987, I thought that show could have lasted longer. Fran's character,Tillie, has a great heart. I remember her so fondly from that series.
She played her rolls with class and heart. She sadly passed away on January 15, 2000 from natural causes, she will be missed very much.

Natural causes? Did she die in her sleep or did she fall ill?

I have to agree with you that she was a great chracter actress in her roles that she did. I will miss her playing some of those roles that I saw her in from the time I can remember seeing her in shows and movies as well.

Ms. Ryan was a familiar face, if not name, and she always stole the show with her quirky characters. She was particularly memorable as the scrappy Miss Adeline, the perpetually drunk mother of Merle Jeeter on "Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman."

I will always remember her as Mrs. Hunsacker on the Brady Bunch - after Carol apologizes for the kids trying to scare the prospective home-buyer, played by Fran Ryan Her reply to Carol was classic - something like, Oh don't fret - I raised my own kids, my dear Watching her in an episode of Charlie's Angels - Terror on Ward One - any Brady episode would kill this, it is bor ing
