What is the obsession with her race? more than half of the topics on here are about her race more than anything else which is really sad. I don't care about her race tbh. For me she is beautiful, talented and has capability to expand her role i.e comedy, drama etc. The children obsessed with her race need to grow up jeez.

No she is not flip-flopping! I just never understand why black people do this, the woman is a multi-ethnic Latina woman, sure she may have a dark skin but she is Latina. If she calls herself a proud Latina then black people MUST accept that she is Latina and move on. Why the hell do black people always try to lay claim to someone that doesn't belong? As a black person I find that offensive and degrading, people should be happy to be black and want to be black - not the other way wrong.
When a race of people try to lay claim to someone it is a pathetic sign of low self-esteem. This woman has been using the black label to get movie roles for a long time, now she is switching because the Latina label is bringing in bigger paychecks, I'd say let it go and move on! -

Sure, but I see a lot of black people being hung up on race, especially whenever it involves a black person in the media. I mean, it is some sort of a natural thing amongst a people who rarely see themselves in the media. I remember reading about the 1960s and how black people were always excited whenever a black person was on tv, how famlies gather and children called their parents.
I see a similar thing happening now, many black people love to jump in whenever a black person is on the big screen and come out with loads of social commentaries on what they've just seen. I mean, I remember very well a black columnist who did an extensive racial analysis on the BLADE movies, doing complex analysis, deciphering "hidden messages," social analogies, etc on a movie that was basically nothing but a mindless bloody vampire comic-book movie made for silly fun. All regardless that the "black" person in the media is living their life comfortably and happily without any sense of communal loyalty or responsibility to "blacb68k people," I mean, why do we still involve ourselves and create a false sense of connection with someone who couldn't give a sh** about us because we have "similar" skin color. In the 60s it may have been understandable but the world is moving forward, you can choose to live in the past or you can move on. The woman has a WHITE partner for goodness sake!! -

Quite frankly i could care less i see her as a talented and beautiful actress (it seems most of the askers regardless of race are Americans which says a lot doesn't it?) I will leave it there

Zoe has made the statement herself "Una Negra Mujer" which pretty much translates to I'm a Black woman. I am Black and am proud she acknowledges she's Black. For years it seem a lot of Afro-Latinos or those who obviously have Black following through their veins who refer to themselves are "darkie" or would only acknowledge the culture or native country/island. They didn't want to own of to their Blackness.

Her heritage IS Latina. Its not American Black like so many of you people seem to think all black people are from. By saying she's proud of being Latina doesn't mean she's saying she is not black.

False. You are obviously not familiar with Zoe Saldana. You know her first role, Center Stage, she plays a latina? Her character's name is Eva Rodriguez. She has always acknowledged her Latina heritage, and she has always considered herself a black Latina. -

Oh,boy,here we go againonce again, peoplethere are black people ALL over Latin Americathey were brought there hundreds of years ago as slavesplease watch Henry Louis Gates's BLACK IN LATIN AMERICA series in which the black heritage and people of Cuba,Mexico,Peru and Brazil is explored. Newsflashwhite and brown people alone do not have a claim to being Hispanic/Latinoyou can be both Black and Latino if you have a Black parent and a Latino parentit's not THAT hard to figure out! Zoe has every right to claim her Latina heritage because her mama's Dominican and her dad's black Puerto Rican, plus she spent her teen years in the DR and learned to speak Spanish. So she is not a so-called "sellout" for anything. Unfortunately, a lot of Americans don't know jack about the millions of black Latinos that exist in Latin America today, otherwise they wouldn't be making these silly comments like yours!

you should know that hispanic is a culture not a race.. anyone can be hispanic white black or even native americanand if you knew history you would know more african's came through the north atlantic slave trade to south america/central america then in the USA..
everytime someone black is doing well the blacks will always try to pull them back to reality "oh you know your black so dont think your special, your just like us"
we consider our selves African "American" just like she considers herself Afro LATINA
she explicitly says that she is black and latina and talks about being black in several interviews, why can't we accept it and support her? -

You people do realize that latino is not a race right? Never in my life have I seen so many people who are this ignorant. Latino is a cultural identity. Her parents are DOMINICAN and PUERTO RICAN, so YES she is a Latina. People do not realize that Latinos 1908are diverse group of people ranging from the lightest shade to the darkest. Gosh people STOP with this bull! The girl is Black AND Latina. One deals with the race (the color of her skin) and the other her ethnicity.

You are kidding right? You realize that "Latina" is not a skin color? Black is a skin color. Latina is a heritage/culture. Guess what? She's both.
Her father is Dominican (Hispanic!) and her mom is Puerto Rican (also Hispanic!) She even lived in her father's native Dominican Republic for many years.
Do a little research and think a little before you make these posts.
