Umm Egyptians are darker than Arabs? Umm, most Egyptians IDENTIFY as Arabs.
When I say Arabs, I mean people living on the Arabian peninsula. I do not mean the cultural identification of a group. Personal identification is a tricky thing because it mainly depends on cultural sourroundings. Most people of mixed race I know tend to identify stronger with one of the races and so their children will surely be convinced to belong completly to that group. Certainly nodoy cares about a couple of ancestors 30 generations ago.
And we know what the original Egyptians looked like because Coptic Christians, who are still around in Egypt, are mostly the direct descendants of Egyptians from ancient times, and they certainly do not look sub-saharan africans.
Coptic Christians are a cultural group, not an ethnic one. The idea that all people from a religious group look alike is stupid. Or do you seriously believe that any group can live with another group for close to 2000 years without genetic mixing? Do all jews look alike? Or all jews look alike? Or all european Christians? Or all Budhists?
And actually there is enough 'proof' that people from Nigeria are 'black'their genetic markers point to their 'haplogroup' which is uniquely associated with those from that region.
Great idea, hadn't thought about genetics. Do you have a paper handy that shows that those genetic markers were not found in the remains of Egyptians from that time? Damn, if I could remember what I meant when I said that "proof is hard to come by unless you actually are an anthropologist". I must have had the idea that there is a way to identify people as members of an ethnic group but that it is hard to find the right scientific puplications unless you work in the field. Damns, if I could just remember what I was thinking aboutbut anyway, great new and innovative idea with the genetic markers, would never have thought of that. While we are at it, do you have any proof that the people in Nigeria are black or did you just tell me how it could be proven but have no idea if anybody even bothered? Do YOU have proof, or did you just inform me that there could be proof out there?

p-kozlowski, you should really listen. Extreme afrocentrics like you make intelligent blacks look bad. Greece is in Europe and the Greeks are considered [Mediterranean] whites. Sure, Greeks may prefer a Greek actress playing Cleo, but Angelina Jolie is fine. The actress who played Cleo in HBO's Rome was perfect.
Also, just because Cleo's HALF sister was mixed, it doesn't mean Cleo was. It doesn't matter. She was overwhelmingly Macedonian-Greek.
Furthermore, Zoe would make a better Nefertiti anyway.
I was so much older then I am younger than that now -

I have listened, I just have not been convinced.
She was not Greek.- Her father was of Greek descent but he came to Egypt with Alexander the great 331 BC. So her father's ancestors hat spend more then 250 years in Egypt. A lot of mixing can take place in 250 years. For all we know her father might very well have had some black ancestors. His racial background is not clear at all.
- Nobody knows who Cleopatra's mother was. The wife of her father was banished around the time of Cleopatra's birth and according to at least one source, even before her birth. So we do not know who her mother was. She might have been black or white, we do not know.
Now, I do not say that Cleaopatra was black beyond any doubt. I have no idea if she was. I just say that she might very well have been black or mixed and that the race should not be an excluding factor for the actress.
I think humanity should be wiped out and then we can give evolution a second chance.

Hmm I personaly think Zoe and Jolie are WRONG WRONG WRONG for this role.
Someone with the skin tone such as Jessica Sohzr would have been perfect. Not necessarily have this girl play the role, but someone with her skin tone, would be closer and more accurate the real Cleo

"Umm, most Egyptians IDENTIFY as Arabs."
Cleopatra was of Greek ancestry and has been described by historians of her time as having "Greek" looks/physical features. You can tell who the ignorant people are; they haven't studied ancient history. They should get someone Mediterranean-looking to play her. -

Actually Tunisia use to be use the Roman Emirpe there aren't that many dark skinned Tunisian unless they are from the south close to the sahara. I know this because I live in Tunisia. People of Anicent Egypt were both white and black. And Cleopata could be played by anyone. If you want the perfect Cleopata than cast a ugly actress to play her. because Cleopata was in fact an ugly woman.

Cleopatra was dark end of story(please do some research) it frustrates me how a lot of people will still deny that Egyptians were dark In films today the look middle eastern or Hispanic when that was clearly not the case back then.

It actually was because they (white people back then) didn't believe that black people or people of a darker hue could be smart enough to actually come up with some of the architectural designs that they did. Another weird they did was knock the noses off of some of the bust so that it would be less obvious, though there are some statues left in complete form.

Cleopatra's ancestors being macedonian not greek is the only connection she has to being macedonian but cleopatra was born in egypt north africa that would make her an african citizen. The discovery channel made a documentary called cleopatra portrait of a killer it reveals that cleopatra's sister arsinoe had african features in her considering arsinoe was well known to being beautiful.
