Yep,her beauty grew with the legend. She was probably just smart and manipulative.
As for being black or white, in general hollywood gives what is expected by the mass, and in this case people expect a 'white' cleo, since thats how they imagine her.

True, her contemporaries described her as not particularly beautiful, but so clever and charming that she became enticing.
I still think that girl from HBO's Rome nailed the Cleopatra role. (http://www.imdb.com/board/21203457/)

Angelina Jolie never played Cleopatra in a movie.

Archaeologists and Historians agree that there are FEW liknesses of Cleopatra. NO ONE is exactly sure what she looked like. Most of what is known of her looks is DESCRIPTIVE. Her allure was supposed to be her intelligence, education, and personality not to mention being an Egyptian royal.
The constant idiocy of people who want to claim Cleo as "black" is irritating. That word and concept, as now used, did not exist during her time on Earth. Her father was a Macedonian (from Europe) and little is known of her mother. Ptolemy inherited a harem when he took over Egypt. The harem was filled with women from every country that had submitted tribute to Egypt when it was the dominant power of the circum Mediterranean region.
Yes, Egypt is in Africa. But, it occupied an area very similar to the lands in between Europe and Asia. An area with a lot of traffic of various people blending for various reasons and circumstances. Is there a line of demarcation between Europe and Asia where the people on one side are Asian and on the other side European? NO.
The "myth" of Cleopatra's beauty has become such a strong icon over the millenia that if there is going to be yet another remake about her, the actress needs to be able to pull that off. Saldana can't do that. Jolie can.

She may have been Greek, but she was also African. We'll claim who we want to claim, so step the hell off! Plus white people have always claimed historical figures even when they KNEW the historical figure in question couldn't be white (like Jesus, for example. So she could have been a black Greek, for all we know. And,yeah, Saldana would have been an interesting choice, if Hollywood had the balls to cast her (but they don't.)

urgh, black or not, Cleopatra would still have had more olive skin then that baboons arse-lips pastey Jolie, Jolie is and over rated incestuous actress.
I agree Zoe Salanda would of been better suited to the role.
as for this whole history lesson crap.. Cleopatras father=greek, Mother=Egyptian(the darker skin acient egyptians), whch would of had a throw back mixed with the olive greek skin of ancient, thus for making Zoe still more suited then Jolie.

I agree what she would make a beautiful and charming Cleopatra (is the movie with A.Jolie still being made btw?)
though, I admit I find it a tad boring that they only make movies about Cleopatra when there are many other interesting Egyptian queens (as well as queens of other african countries) that could be featured in a movie (Nefertiti, Hatshepsut, Nefertari to name few). I get Cleopatra's appeal, but she isn't the only one and hollywood is so unoriginal they keep making remakes of the same stories over and over.

Cleopatra VII Philopator was a descendant from the Ptolemaic dynasty she married her brother Ptolemy XIII Theos Philopator. They like the Ancient Egyptians followed traditions to marry only family. She married her brother for a reason. Which means they kept their Greek Macedonian blood pure. She is known as a Macedonian Greek that ruled over Egypt after Alexander the Great took control over Egypt after defeating the Persians, & they took over the Assyrians & before then the Nubians. Why is it so difficult to acknowledge that she was European? IF they find evidence to prove otherwise people should respect that, but there is none. And stop trying to change history in place of propaganda.
