complaining, I have a question for you: How do you feel about white women who only (or almost only) have on-screen romance with white guys? -

she is blackwell, partially black, she's a black Latina, and she has stated several times in interviews that she has black heritage, and her skin-tone is dark too.
She's not completely black, but she still has black heritage. -

From what I know, she's black and had always identified as a black woman. Why she shouldn't, none of her parents are/were (her dad died when she was little) white, they are both afro-latinos which means she's black, or no less black than most of african-american actresses whose race is never questioned.
I think some people assume that she's mixed because they wrongly link being latina with a race on its own and they think, thank to biased media and hollywood's stereotypes, that latin people can only look like Jennifer Lopez or Shakira, or Cameron Diaz. But the thing is latina is NOT a race and had never been a race. It's not a different version of the caucasian race either. It's just a culture and ethnicity shared by many people of all races.
So Zoe Saldana simply is afro-latina that is no different than being afro-american, just she comes from and embraces a latin culture instead of an american one and her main language is spanish instead of english.
I read some people saying that latina is her nationality but in reality that's wrong too because she was born in america (in queens) and thus her nationality is still american (and one of her languages is english), but then she grew up in the dominican republic after her father died and thus embraces the cultural background of her family.
this reminds me the confusion around the word 'hispanic' too because some people believe that hispanic is itself a race but it's not. Hispanic doesn't mean 'person who comes from spain' but rather 'spanish speaking people' that can be of any race and ethnicity. -

it's funny that she's considered black by whites, but black Afro Americans do not consider her to be "black" at all. That'2000s evident with the whole controversy surrounding her recent role as Nina Simone, so many Afro blacks are complaining "but she's not black!" ummm YES she is. She's just not Afro black, but she's a black Latina, that's still blackbut no, not according to Afro blacks. It's as if these Afro blacks believe only black people from Africa can be considered "black", but that's not the case.
Being a black is a ethnicity not a nationality, it's not limited to just one country or even one continent, and I wish more Afro blacks would understand that. -

Some black people have issues with her simple because she said she identifies as a Latina (which she is.) I'm black, and I've always considered her black,period. Unfortunately, even some black folks don't know too much about Afro-Latinos, which explain some of the ridiculous (and just plain stupid) things that have been said about her on here.
