Actor Brad Pitt says one of the lowest points of his life was being dumped by his ex-fiancee after he flew to Budapest to see her.
The 47-year-old star was left stunned when actress Jill Schoelen - who he was engaged to for 5b4three months in 1989 when he was a young and struggling actor - asked him to spend the last of his money on a plane ticket to the Hungarian capital, only for her to tell him she had fallen for another man.
The 'Tree of Life' star told The Sun newspaper: "She called me up in Los Angeles and was crying on the phone. She was lonely and there was a huge drama. At this point I had $800 to my name and I spent $600 of it getting a ticket from Los Angeles to Hungary to see her.
"I got there, went straight to the set where she was filming and that night we went out to dinner. She told me that she had fallen in love with the director of the film. I was so shocked I said, 'I'm outta here.' "
However, Brad now believes the experience was character building and when he recalls the night it makes him appreciate everything he has now, both in his career and his personal life.
The Hollywood actor - who is in a long-term relationship with Angelina Jolie, with whom he raises six children Maddox, nine, Pax, seven, Zahara, six, Shiloh, four and two-year-old twins Knox and Vivienne -said: "I spent my night in Budapest, sitting on a bench, smoking, with just a local bum to talk to who couldn't speak English.
"These are the days and nights you remember when you have success. I returned to America absolutely broke. This is why recognition does not bother me too much." -

"In retrospect, that was also the lowest point of Jill Schoelen's life"
Exactly. Look at her now and look at where Brad Pitt is now. Brad gets payback every time she sees him on TV and a movie and screams "What did I do? I'm an idiot!!" -

"I do not think she has regrets about breaking up with Brad Pitt nor is she as shallow as you might think."
And you know this how? She broke up with him in the first place because she is shallow. He was a broke struggling actor far away from her so she started dating someone who had more money, was closer, and just more conveinient. That's shallow. -

Jill and Brad Pitt met on the set of "Cutting Class' (Brad's first official flick), and she initially didn't want to date him or any fellow actor (this is mentioned in last year's Fangoria magazine interview). So they were both in their mid-20's, she supposedly fell in love with the director of Phantom of the Opera, Dwight H. Little, and that relationship did not last either. Then she met and married Anthony Marinelli, a film composer. Now they are divorced, and then she met a saxophonist whom she was deeply in love and he passed on. I guess my point is that, since I have actually spoken to Jill and interviewed her (never discussing her personal life), she never sounded the least bit shallow to me. I didn't know her twenty years back, but a girl marrying someone else because they have more money doesn't sound like the same Jill I spoke to - that is all I can say.

Lets not forget, Brad, a married man, cheated on his wife with Jolie while filming, Mr and Mrs Smith. As far as I'm concerned, he's just as much as a douche, if not worse, and Jolie is an inncestial home wrecker, I'm still surprised how many people forget she was married to Billy Bob and made out with her brother on TV.

As if Star magazine was the most truthful tabloid out there. All I can say is that Jill did not have an interview with Star nor did she sell any love letters.

If you see the pictures of them together look like one very happy couple.
Maybe she thought he'd leave her eventually. Probably would have.
Imagine going from that point (pictures) to not there would be an unforgettable experience.
