I just noticed that a lot of actors turn to directing and then cast actors who sort of look like them also that and I remember Tom Everett Scott mentioning something about this on Letterman if you watch "A River Runs Through It" directed by Robert Redford, notice how he cast Brad Pitt to play the role and they look like twins separated by age

If I'm not mistaken, I believe that was the reason. I think Rita Wilson (Hank's wife) pointed that fact out during auditions for the movie.

Hanks did NOT want to hire him for that reason. His wife, after seeing the film of Scott's test, told Tom to hire him.
