Where does she rank on the beauty scale?

^Haha, so true. Guys who hate short hair are always the ones who totally love unattractive women who use big hair, loads of makeup and boobs to seem prettier than they are (cough ScarJo). Short hair makes you as boyish or masculine as wearing a firefighter costume makes you a real firefighter.
However, I disagree about pulling it off. Most women, especially as they age, look great in it to me. You do need the right cut for your face but it isn't impossible. Strong faces like Demi Moore can pull it off and so can soft, babyfaces like Carey Mulligan.
Jean was gorgeous either way but looked especially good with cropped hair. It highlights a woman's femininity and her real face that makeup ad long hair tend to hide.
We're collecting dust, but our love's enough. -

I'm hetero, too, but as you say, that doesn't mean I can't see if a woman is beautiful. I think Jean Seberg and Virna Lisi are two of the most beautiful women EVER on the big screen.

The more I look at her the more convinced I am that she is the most beautiful person I have ever seen. Check her out in BONJOUR TRISTESSE (a beautiful girl) and THE ROAD TO CORINTH (beautiful woman).

I find her beauty breathtaking. To each his own, but I'm shocked anyone could think she was plain! Her sexiness was more subtle than Bardot but it was there. She's at least as beautiful, and even lovelier than Julie Christie. She's up there with Deneuve for me. Strange how some people can't seem to see beauty but only cuteness unless a woman has very conventional looks, i.e. long hair and large breasts.

I think she is absolutely stunningbut she has the sort of changeable looks of a fashion model.
She had strong yet delicate features, flawless skin, full lips, beautiful eyes and teethbut all that could be played up or down. With a lot of makeup on, she could look like Faye Dunaway or (in some pictures) Anita Ekberg, while in everyday life she looked more like a Midwestern girl you'd see in a drugstore (which in fact is what she was.)
I think looks like these are the very best to have, because you can manipulate them to look glamorous or more ordinary, depending on your mood. -

Jean had a completely flawless beauty. Flawless beauties are often mistaken as average because the lack of diversity in their features causes them to look plain in photographs. I personally prefer women who are slightly less conventional looking (like Sharon Tate Brigitte Bardot) but I still consider Jean among the most beautiful of her era.

I donno being "average" is a flaw in itself, as is being considered "flawless", at least to me. For example Naomi Watts is considered flawless by a lot of people. She's obviously not ugly but like you said about these types, she has no interesting, striking features so I can't find her flawless, even though she technically may not have flaws. If any of that makes sense.
Everyone who is attractive (even unconventionally so) has to have
some
symmetry and proportion to their features, even if it is not remarkably obvious. How striking a beauty is has to do with how large, strong, or unusual their features are, but the actual placing and overall proportion is what makes them beautiful. That's why a woman can have individually attractive features like full lips, high cheekbones, or large doe eyes, and still be unattractive overall (and vice-versa).
But I agree that whether a person likes a striking beauty or a plainer one is up to the individual. -

'That's why a woman can have individually attractive features like full lips, high cheekbones, or large doe eyes, and still be unattractive overall (and vice-versa).'
Great observation; like Mia Farrow.
Judging by Seberb's imdb headshot, that's a beautiful woman (more than Jane Fonda) But one has to be into certain types; Seberg looks very northern Europeon(Polish,German, etc.) Long hair suited her more. -

On a scale of one to ten, a 7 or 7.5. Maybe an 8. I don't normally find people with conventional looks very nice-looking but she is, partly cuz of that short hair, and partly cuz she reminds me of Grace Kelly.
I try to be like Grace Kelly, but all her looks were too -

I really like Jean's look! I love her petite, "elfin" features. She's definitely one of the most beautiful actresses ever, to me.
