thanks for sharing that man. There is such a limited amount of information on Rod and I always find myself wanting to know more about him. Im envious of your story. If I was ever given the oppertunity to meet one person living or dead it would have to be Rod. Great Story Man!

Monshopalotta, what a great story!!
Lecie, like your dad, I was in my teens (about 15) when Serling died. I had been a fan of his since I was about 7 or 8, watching those TZ reruns in the Sixties. I tried like hell to meet him, but he never made it to Omaha, NE.
Now, my kids love TZ, and my oldest is only 12!
I do have a script of his, one of the last he wrote, written before he died. It was never made, and sat in a drawer for almost 30 years until I obtained it from a producer Serling was under contract to.
Thanks for posting, it's cool that so many young fans love the guy. I wish he could have lived a lot longer

"He repeatedly stated that he never liked the show Night Gallery."
I always had a sneaking suspicion that he wasn't in charge of the Night Gallery.
He should have been, after the success of the Twilight Zone,
but of course that's not how Hollywood works.
It seems the eternal trick is to somehow get your dream past
the Hollywood steamroller. Thank God for Sundance, etc, for opening that door. -

I wonder what it would have been like to be taught by him, when he was a teacher for a short time (in his later years), at Ithaca College, in New York? Although I never met him, my brother-in-law saw him, when he came to speak at his University; Northern Illinois University, sometime in the early 1970's. He too, mentioned his chain smoking, throughout his talk. He also said, that afterwards, Mr. Serling stayed over, sat at the end of the stage in the ballroom and answered any additional question, the students might have. I now work at that same University and many times, I'll sit at the end of that stage and wonder what it must have been like.? Small in stature (height wise), but large in stature (achievement & talent), was Rod Serling.

When my theatre professor told me he'd once met him after a college lecture, I excitedly waited for what was sure to be an exciting s5b4tory. What I got was this.
[Professor walks into a bathroom, begins using a urinal. Glances over to the next urinal and realizes it's Rod Serling. He then proceeds to stare at him for a moment or two.]
Professor: Uh, you're Rod Serling.
Serling: Yep.
Professor: Uh.
[Serling walks away, washes his hands, and exits the restroom.]
I mean, I guess it wouldn't exactly be classy to ask for an autograph at that exact moment, but still. Not that I would have been any more coherent had I got to meet Rod, myself. -

Well, at least he washed his hands after taking a pee. Do you ever notice HOW many people don't? Even after taking a dump they don't!!!
NOTICE TO MITT ROMNEY: A BAD DAY FREELOADING, IS BETTER THAN A GOOD DAY AT WORK. -

I, myself, never had the opportunity to meet him in person because he had passed before I was born. But my family is very close friends with the Serling family, so I have grown up hearing many stories of Rod from his widow, children and my family. He is one person that I wish I could have had the opportunity to meet and be around, especially during holiday season.

You are very lucky to have met hm in person. I have always considerd Rod Serling to be a genius as a writer. The premature death of this man, assisted by cigarette smoking, is one that the tobacco companies should be made to pay for, and dearly.

Thank you for telling us of your meeting Mr.Serling.
Talking about the joy he brought to the world made me want to say, he really did a lot to shape the people of my generation.
He used black actors in his show. He had stories about the south that weren't all hillbillies and missing teeth.
He wrote about justice for all entertainingly so we "got" the message.
(imagine something deep or funny here)
