A Unknown would be best. Anyone famous would ruin the movie for me, and many others.
Cruise shouldn't direct it either, it should be someone like George Clooney who can captivate that old fashion Twilight Zone opening feel. -

I believe that we should band together and start "the citizens against Tom Cruise as Rod Serling" movement.Lol!I just would'nt want to see this idea come to fruition.Just my opinion,but I view Cruise as somewhat of a freak.I agree with earlier posts that getting an unknown would probably be the best bet!If the material was treated properly(and hopefully with the input of Serling's widow)it could be a very interesting and entertaining biopic.Being a child of the early 70s and growing up on "Twilight Zone" and "Night Gallery",I would look forward to a respectful and intelligent take on 1354this idea.Rod Serling was a true visionary,and his story should be told!

I guess I'm in the minority; I think Tom Cruise could do a fairly decent job at it. They're about the same height, Cruise has done military films before (Serling served in WWII), and Cruise seems pretty athletic (Serling was an amateur boxer). What's the worse that could happen: a bad movie. There are already plenty of those, one more won't mean the end of civilization.
