Shandling took humor to a new level by showing us the tortured heart of a clown even as it satirized the TV industry.
"I'm a talk show host. I'm all beep up." Larry to Ileana Douglas in a later episode.
As a standup, Garry had his moments, and he did some good work with It's Garry Shandling's Show, but Larry Sanders was so far ahead of its time that tv is barely catching up with it now. And make no doubt about it, Garry ran the Sanders show from top to bottom. Great writing, great acting.
I don't know about the rest of his life; I got the feeling he felt he had missed some opportunities in his personal life, and that's sad. But he gave us a lot in his professional life and the Sanders show is a work of art, not just a sitcom.
Goodbye Larry, I mean Garry. And good thoughts whatever you believe is next. Peace. -

No doubt, that show was pure greatness from top to bottom. He deserves a lifetime comedy achievement award for bringing in the great Rip Torn as Artie. And while Jeffrey Tambor was a fairly steady worker in a lot of stuff before, I think Shandling launched his career into the stratosphere with the Hank Kingsley character. -

Absolutely devastated! Too fast and too soon like Ken Howard yesterday! Garry was a comedic genius, ahead of his time and helped and influenced so many writers, comedians and actors whom worked for him on his shows and he was a mentor to so many people. He will be soo missed but leaves a great legacy behind. Thank you Garry for your creation of inspiring and entertaining works over the many decades! My condolences to his family and close friends and many fans!

It's Garry Shandling's Show is one of the funniest things ever on TV. He was like some demented Mr. Rogers. Garry was brilliant and hilarious, and in later years, wholly underappreciated. RIP, you funny bastard.

I loved him on his show. He was very funny! He grew up here in Tucson, AZ, where I live, and he went to the University of Arizona. I also enjoyed seeing him on The X-Files, Iron Man 2, and Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
RIP Gary Shandling.
