. . . when I first moved to LA about two years ago.
We were both waiting in line to pick up prescriptions at the drugstore when I recognized him. I normally wouldn't bother a celebrity in private but I've admired his work for so long I just wanted to tell him so.
He was extremely friendly and amusing and looked as handsome as ever and still has that amazing voice that sounds exactly as it first did 'Crimson Kimono'. What a great gentleman he is.
When is someone going to release 'Bridge to the Sun'? It's criminal that this movie isn't out on dvd. -

Good to know that he was gracious (as I imagined he would be, but you never know). I agree with you that Bridge to the Sun should be released on dvd. What a good movie - those who made it should be proud to have been involved with it, and James Shigeta's performance is excellent.

I thought I was one of the few James Shigeta fans and that us black and white TV babies remembered him best, especially his appearances on so many 60's through 80's TV dramas. It is interesting to see all of the online news articles about his passing and to realize that he was admired and remembered by many. He was a true class act with a beautiful voice. He will be missed. James Shigeta, gone, but never forgotten.
