What is so interesting about your post is today i found some pics of a fan of the show where she met the cast and posed for pics with most of them. Well James is barely smiling in the photo and Michelle is in two photos and she just looks bored to be there and John is smiling such a nice big genuine smile so this so fits with what you said. I never watched this show. Just never did. I wish I had just for JOhn for I liked him since he was on Guiding Light. I read an interview with him and he said most people thought he was too young to play James father but he said not only was he the right age for the charcter of Dawson's father but in real life he said James is older than Dawson and he himself was still old enough to be James father in real life.
