Being educated no longer means what it used to mean. Once upon a time, education was used mostly to increase knowledge and cognitive skill, now it's used mostly to increase compliance and conformity. There has always been some level of indoctrination, but not like there is today.
Therefore, it's important to ask "when" was a person educated. People educated before the turn of the millennium are usually wiser, and more independent of action and thought. Therefore, they are more likely to be conservative. Those educated more recently are more compliant, dependent, and indoctrinated. Hence they choose the more authoritarian, big government parties.
