what a sheer talent, she opitamised the english beauty, and god is she still gorgeous,in the steptoe and son episode she appeared in she gave, what i consider to be the most withdrawn performance, as psychologically not trying to upstage the prescence of an unbelievable sitcom, and still come out on top!! superb.

For those who know about the bittorrent site UKNova, the Crown Court episode Falling Stars is available for download (free membership with download restrictions for new members). Madeline Smith is a guest star with David Buck, who may not have been her husband yet.

As much as I admired Miss Smith from afar, I am not far enough away not to recognize that "timeless" does not apply in her case. Nearly sixty years of age now, she appears somewhat frumpy, matronly and certainly no longer beautiful. At age 21 in "The Vampire Lover" she was fresh, dewy, with big innocent eyes and a fantastic figure (Ingrid Pitt might have given her a run in that film). Her work in the "Up" series has made her an immortal, no doubt, and we can remember her fondly from that time. What made Madeline so alluring is that she had the face of a child and a body of a woman, a rare combination indeed. As she matured, that childishness faded away. However, I still place her high in the Pantheon of busty British beauties along with Valerie Leon and Margaret Nolan.

I don't know about "matronly" and "frumpy" - she looks extremely good for a woman of her age, still very attractive. She has the good sense to dress and style her hair appropriately. I think she was one of the most beautiful young women ever, and the comment about her having the face of a child and the body of a woman is very perceptive: the childishness and womanliness are both pushed to extremes.
There are sexy woman who aren't really beautiful in an aesthetic sense, but, after a long period when I had not seen her in her youth, I recently saw Madeline Smith and realised, yes, by any criterion this was an exceptionally beautiful young woman. Not only that, she exudes a genuine niceness which is confirmed by her interview (as are her intelligence and common sense - another rare combination!).

Saw her at a Bond convention about 17 years ago and she still looked beautiful. Really nice person as well. Still have the picture she signed for me!

I am a BIG fan of Madeline Smith. However, when I shamelessly said that she looked
"frumpy" at around 60 years old, I wasn't kidding.anddespite that, we are probably not in disagreement. When you saw her 17 years ago she was around 42 years old and still in the last phases of what can be called her prime. A woman at 42 and a woman at 60 are not the same (the same can be said of men, yes I know). Whatever the case, time is a dastardly thief and has always found delight in stealing beauty away from women as they age. Not being a woman (and not having any intention of becoming one in the near future), I can only imagine the psychological impact of having a wonderful, God-given gift such as beauty slowly stolen away from me year by year. When it is a woman's trump card, it must be a terrible loss.

There is an interview with her on teletext page 521 bbc. I dont know who this woman is but she was in taste the blood of dracula.
I cant remember seeing this film.

I'd have to agree with everything you said.
She was certainly pretty special with that big eyed and forehead look of an innocent young girl but the fantastically sexy body of a wholesome woman.
A great combination and one that I agree puts her in the league of Valerie Leon. I just wished she'd gotten some more work. The few scenes of her in Vampire Lovers and Up Pompeii where just not enough.

I find that using the freeze frame option makes those scenes last A LOT longer.
