Kathryn Stockett met Octavia Spencer before she started writing The Help. Octavia was 100 pounds heavier, on a diet which made her very crabby, and trying to endure a really bad heatwave. She wasn't the nicest person, but she caught Kathryn's attention and they became friends. Kathryn based her character, Minny, on Octavia and was thrilled when Octavia was available to play the part in the movie. (Octavia was interviewed by Nate Berkus and told this story.)

Yes yes YES! Looking at her body of work, I realize I've seen her before in tiny little roles. THANK YOU Lord for giving her a vehicle that should put her on the "A" list! Amazing actor!!! Absolutely love her. Don't know if she'll be nominated, but she should be. So very talented. A huge WOW!

She better receive a nomination, and hopefully a WIN! She was outstanding.

Just saw this last night and I was coming to post the same thing. She was absolutely fantastic and it will be a crime if she's overlooked this year.
Sister, when I've raised hell, you'll know it!

And after the Oscars, someone will hand her a broom and mop. If she or Viola receive an Oscar it will set Black people back 52 years. It is really sick that Hollywood will embrace a POS like this yet turn their backs on a fine film like Red Tails. But then again look how many white people rushed to see 2011's version of gone with the wind but have no desire to see a positive movie with a cast of AA.
