I see a few people feel like me that Donna's I'm A Rainbow would have been better as a single album. I listened to it the last few weeks and came up with my track listing on what would have been a perfect follow-up to The Wanderer. I kept in mind most "albums" are about 45 minutes and the year 1981. I think Donna was on the right track with her New-Wave/Dance sound. Here is my "perfect rainbow"!
- I Believe (In You)
- True Love Survives
- Leave Me Alone
- Melanie
- To Turn The Stone
- A Runner With The Pack
- End Of The Week
- I Need Time
- Highway Runner
- Romeo
- I'm A Rainbow
What do ya think?

Those are great suggestions! I keep listening to I'M A RAINBOW because it's actually the Donna album I've heard the least. When it came out (FINALLY) in 19135496 it sounded so dated and old I don't think I really listened to it more than twice. The saddest part of the album is David Geffen could have made something out of it. The songs I didn't choose had a more R&B sound which is what David wanted from her when he teamed her with Quincy Jones! In my original post I chose songs I thought sounded most like The Wanderer, but if Geffen wanted more soul, I give you THE SOUL RAINBOW!!
- I Believe(In You)
- You To Me
- Back Where You Belong
- Don't Cry For Me Argentina
- People Talk
- Sweet Emotion
- I'm A Rainbow
- Brooklyn
- End Of The Week
- Walk On (Keep On Movin')
Better?

I remember buying 'I'm A Rainbow' when it came out in 1996 (along with the Mercury releases of 'Cats Without Claws', 'The Wanderer' and 'Donna Summer' - all which were missing from my Summer CD collections at the time!). I played it often, but I admit never loved it.
The few songs I did play over and over (and still do) are: 'I Need Time', 'Brooklyn', 'Melanie', 'End of the Week' and 'Walk On'.
The others are hit or miss for me, mostly misses - including 'I'm a Rainbow', 'I Believe in You', 'You To Me', 'To Turn the Stone' (I like the singer from ABBA's version better) and 'Argentina' (never ever liked Summer's versions..neither recorded nor live).
Paul Ryan's proposal is a budget that goes against the teachings of Jesus. -

Wow I'm kind of shocked at the lack of love for Donna's version of To Turn The Stone. I LOVE Frida's version it was the first version I heard. I also loved the whole Frida album, but looking back on it, it was all Phil Collins drums and production. Though I love phil too.. it sounds more dated to me than Donna's version. Also I find Frida's vocals a bit "toyed" with. Donna's vocals are clear and upfront.. I also prefer Giorgio Moroder's production on Donna's version. I also feel if I'm A Rainbow were released in '81 and To Turn The Stone was a single and still worked with Quincy in '82 State Of Independence would have been a bigger hit!
