This classic was on recently and I had to DVR it. I remember watching this as a 7 year old when it first came out and although I had no idea who Russ Tamblyn was at the time, this movie had such an im5b4pact on me and my developing affinity with nature as well with acrobatics later in high school.
But when I watched it tonight, I was astounded at Russ's amazing ability to dance and incorporate gymnastics in his role as Tom Thumb. I mean it was so amazing that after I watched the entire movie, I went back to the part where the toys were "having a party" for himand had to watch it again. The style of dancing was a fast beat freestyle modern jazz with a bit of 50's "jitterbug" and the pace of his moves, his exhuberance, it was all just so astounding. I know he was really super in West Side Story and Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, both made great impressions on me, but his performance in Tom Thumb was the utmost!!! Wish I could get word to him about how totally great is was and how he influenced me at such an early age. -

My earliest memory of movies is of Tom Thumb. Only yesterday I got to watch it again for the first time after finding it on Netflix and boy did it bring back my most cherished childhood memory. I now realize that I was 4 when I watched it the first time with my late father.
And only now that I realize that Russ of Tom Thumb also was the talent in West Side Story and Seven Brides for Seven Brother. I agree that his dance performance in Tom Thumb was top-notch.
I myself wish to send my thanks to Russ for the sweet childhood memory with my beloved father. -

I just watched 'Tom Thumb' for the first time. I was very impressed with Tamblyn and came here to see if he had once been a gymnast. His dance moves were very acrobatic and he could really move on the stage. I had no idea. I've never watched 'West Side Story' or 'Seven Brides'. I easily recognize him, but I'm not sure from where.
