What do you all want from this board?

Well it seems to be all quiet on the Western Front, Im not sure whether its because youve all verbally annihilated one another or whether its the lull before the storm. Or you may have become so cheesed off with one another on this board that youve left in your droves?! Time will tell.
There has been a question that has been on the periphery of my mind while I have been fascinated, and in the same measure repelled, by all the verbal cut and thrust that has been flowing back and forth and that is, what do you all want from this forum?
I know what weve been witness to and that is to be the spectators, willing or otherwise, of a verbal conflagration between two parties who are determined to conduct a war of attrition and who, on a regular basis, instigate further attacks either by an outright assault or by posting what seems to be an innocuous post only for the last two lines to be the equivalent to a red rag to a bull to the other party concerned and then were off again. I cant quite decide whether its got to the point where no one is prepared to back down and not to respond to an insult, perceived or otherwise or if both parties actually derive some perverse enjoyment from the attempted verbal destruction of an opponent.
Ultimately there have been two casualties from all of this, firstly the board itself and what is actually supposed to be under discussion which is Jay Tavare and his work. Secondly, and to my mind more importantly, the genuine people who come to this board looking for a discussion and seeing an outright war. They either watch the posts and decide that theres no way they want to be a part of this and then leave or they try to post and unknowingly and unwittingly are assigned to being part of the hate mob or the outpost of the JT official web site brigade. At that point they are considered fair game and are verbally eviscerated only to slink off the boards at some point never to return. If this ridiculous situation is allowed to continue then this forum will grind to a halt, stagnate and be totally worthless to all parties concerned.
So I repeat the question, what does everybody want from this forum? What do you want to discuss and what do you feel ought not to be under discussion?
If we could all just discuss this (and the word discuss is the one I want to draw attention to here) rather than argue about it we may just achieve a consensusbut then again, going on past performance as witnessed on this board, it would be wise for me not to hold my breath. -

Thank god for JayTavare.com and his Myspace page, at least there are sane, smart, sophisticated giving ladies, who roam the Jay land over there. lol
I would just like to say that there are plenty of sane, smart, sophisticated giving ladies all over the world who may not necessarily be part of "Jay land"

However I was wondering how much speculation and what type of speculation might be countenanced by all parties concerned? I seem to remember from one of your previous postings that any speculation regarding Jay Tavare was a particular bête noire of yours. -

With all due respect Indigo Cloud I can see that in your last paragraph you're waving the red rag in order to get the bull to charge. I'll be honest It's not going to help matters and it's not going to get other people to join this forum so that we can all enjoy a wide ranging and civilised discussion between adults who agree to differ. The way things stand at the moment there are so very few people who are left here that don't have an axe to grind I feel that the numbers who are left have no chance of pulling this board around not unless other parties try not to jump at any and every provocation the other side offer and just try to 5b4be civil. Failing that they should try and resist the temptation to bite and just ignore the offending post, although that's an ideal situation and I'm under no illusion that this will happen.
For everything else that you say I broadly agree with you. I personally didn't want to join the fan club as I know that all mods watch all fan club boards like hawks ready to pounce on anything and everything that may be construed as challenge to the object of their devotion. I didn't want to be a part of a sycophantic collective, what I wanted was free and relatively open discourse on a person that had come to my attention. I wanted to pose my questions and even if I didn't get a definitive answer then at least I might get other people's opinion and contrasting point of view. Yes it is speculation but for the most part its harmless speculation. I think there are people on this board who view the word speculation as akin to an eighth deadly sin and I appreciate that it is their point of view but it is hardly realistic. However I do think that this board has got completely out of hand and speculation has descended into unremitting condemnation and criticism not only of Jay Tavare, whether he deserves it or not, but also of individuals. Insults of the worst kind have bandied back and forth, individual names have been used and God alone knows what else has occurred. Trust, honour, respect, integrity, both personal and otherwise has beeb68n totally discarded in this ridiculous all out war that has been ongoing. And quite frankly Im totally disgusted with the lot of it. Its about time that people start to discard the vices within their personality and start to embrace the virtues
With regards to what has happened in the past Ive listened to both points of view and have come to the conclusion that both sides are more than likely changing their stories, adding and deleting parts at will and generally twisting the truth to make a trap for knaves. Where the blames lies Ive no idea and Ive now got to the point where I care even less. However if this board is to be fit place where others totally ignorant and innocent of what has gone on before feel comfortable to post then all that assorted claptrap is going to have to be left behind and for that to happen the warring parties have to make a concerted effort to leave the past where it belongs in the past and move on. -

Yet another red rag post it seems? Its a cliché but also a truth to say that it takes two to argue.
I paid particular attention to what was going on with the Jackie Chan post, the fact that when Judgemenot posted everybody totally ignored them and carried on chatting meant that Judgemenot was totally impotent to do anything else. Take that idea and extend it to the rest of the board, so that if somebody oversteps the line they are ignored and no response given and you find that you all effectively police yourselves. However to do that there has to be a concerted effort from those who are not involved in all that has gone before and that is when the problems set in. I simply do not think there are enough people who are part of this forum but who are detached from all the in-fighting and are willing to do what needs to be done to pull this board out of the unmitigated mess it's in at the moment.
As to why people joined this site I can see why they would have left the fan site if they're being discriminated against, but two points here:- They can't keep rehashing the past especially to the detriment of everybody else on this board. A thought might be that they could all band together and decide to create their own web site in opposition to the Jay Tavare site? Perhaps they may still want to do this is they feel that strongly about it and if they feel that they have a genuine grievance and cant let it go maybe putting their side of the story on their own web site that they can control might be the best for them?
- However to move to another board that doesn't belong to them, effectively hijacking the board for months on end and virtually placing it under a coup détat is no way to go about things and its hardly fair to those who merely want to chat about Jay Tavare but dont want to take their allegiance any further by being forced to make an exodus from the IMDb boards to join his fan site. Between the Jay Tavare group and the dissatisfied group they have effectively ruined it for everybody else, the ultimate and extreme example of total selfishness. Where do you suggest that everybody who merely wants to chat and generally speculate about Jay Tavare goes? We are where we should be, what excuse do the rest of you have? And yes you may argue that its a free country but then this is the point where one would imagine the sense of fairness and thinking about others and how your actions might impinge upon them just might come in to play.
Youre quite right, my ideas about being civil and agreeing to disagree are admirable, extremely so, especially since it happens to be a set of ideas worth signing up to and trying to emulate and actually they are more than possible since it seems that, for the most part, the rest of the IMDb boards are actually doing just that day in and day out.
On a purely interested note can I ask you why you just cant stop taunting the other side? Is it that you feel that you have a genuine grievance although if this is the case then Im a little confused since you say in your post
I joined the discussion shortly after this happened and found what they had to say very compelling. So I'm not certain what the forum used to be like before these events. Needless to say because I joined when I did, I got sucked right into the debate about who had proof about what and who didn't.
You therefore imply that you, in actual fact, have nothing to do with any of the in-fightng and that it didnt affect you in any way shape or form and that after being appraised of their facts you merely nailed your colours to the mast of their dissention? Is this correct?
So then that leaves the question as to quite why you feel the need to keep baiting the opposition. Is it that you actually enjoy the fights, the arguments, the dissention and employing your considerable use of the English Language to these ends? Could it be the actual whys and wherefores matter not one jot to you and its really the word play that you enjoy? If that is the case then I assume that with Judgemenot out of the way or lying low then youre without your usual sparring partner and that the way this discussion is going you fully intend to get your fix by bandying words with me? Am I correct in this assumption?

Im pleased to read that my assumption is incorrect, I dont relish the prospect of having to fight against both camps but if that is what Im being driven towards then let me make myself perfectly clear about this thats exactly what I will do. Im fully aware of how much Judgemenot is unhappy with the situation (and not because Ive received pms) I may be on the other side of the Atlantic but Im picking up the vibes from over here
Not helped of course by the fact that their posts keep being deleted, I was wondering who was reporting them, I salute you on how fast you are, so fast I dont get a chance to read them before theyre gone! Although I do wonder whether I actually want to read them, maybe ignorance is bliss?!
As for insulting you? No, insulting you or anybody else is not my intention, what, after all, would be the point? Im sitting here telling everybody not to react to certain posts, to discuss things, to treat one another with politeness and civility it then hardly makes sense if Im going to come out and do completely the opposite to what Ive been trying to get everybody else to do. However If you could make the effort to try and back off, for a while at least, and lets just see if we can put this board back onto an even keel I would be grateful. God knows if truth be told Im not optimistic about it, I think that certain attitudes are far too entrenched, but just because Im not hopeful about the situation doesnt mean that we shouldnt at least try to make it work. Ive managed to get access to at least some of Jay Tavaress films, trying to get the time to watch them is another matter, so I will try and post some opinion on something or other when I can. However the finer points of acting, directing, film making and whatever else I admit go completely over my head so Im fully expecting to be blown out of the water with the first salvo from certain quarters! But Ill give it a go. I also feel that its only fair to warn you all that 2000at some point I fully intend to give way to copious amounts of speculation. There will be a tight rein on what will be speculated about and how far it goes but nevertheless there are certain parties whom I feel should be forewarned.
That said its 3.54 am here in the UK and I have to be up for work tomorrow and quite frankly Im tired, so goodnight everybody -

I think that everyone would agree that this should be a civil board with the ability to discuss Jay in that manner.
Perhaps with negative attacking posts being deleted, that goal can be accomplished.
Afterall, I came to the board expecting to be able to talk about Jay. The problem is that I was attacked if I wrote anything, even in the form of a question, that was deemed to be negative.
You're absolutely correct when you say that it turns people away.

I noticed this is an old subject with no discussion since 2007. Being a new fan, I would love to see a lot more discussion on all his movies, especially "Unbowed". I am on the waiting list to get it and hope it is soon:-)
I would also love to see more discussion on his other projects as well.
