As far as I know, from the information available on IMDb, the only tv production that Jay has been involved with (previous to CSI) was the mini-series "Into the West". The series did win a few Emmys, but they were for music and sound mixing. Other actors who starred in the series were nominated for other awards, but Jay Tavare was not among them. You say that Jay wants to branch out from Native roles, but his only other tv work is playing a Native, so I don't understand your reasoning there. I also found it interesting that he's playing a Latino in CSI, yet I remember that whenever someone used to question his background and suggest that he was Latino himself, that all the Jay supporter7ecs used to freak out and deny it. Why would he want to portray an ethnicity that he himself isn't at all comfortable being mistaken as?

I have never read or heard that, actually no one has.
He has done several Latino roles, like Vega.

"Actually no one has."? No one? Not one single person? And you know this how? As knowledgeable as you often say you are, you can't make a sweeping statement like that and pretend to speak for everyone. You certainly don't speak for me. I remember some time ago that there was confusion over Jay's ethnicity on this board. In wikipedia, as well as on IMDb and in earlier versions of his bio from his website, it listed "Latin" as part of his background. On his current bio his ethnicity isn't even mentioned. From what I was told the mods used to raise a big stink whenever it was mentioned that Jay was anything but 100% Native American Indian.
Vega was not Latino. Vega was a Spaniard, from Spain. Latino means American Spanish/Mexican. They are not the same thing. -

He didn't even write that bio and a bio doesn't always have to be about ethnicity,
so what's your problem.

Vega was described as Latin with movie star idol looks when the casting call went out, that was mentioned on the forum long ago.
How about the movie El Padrino?
He was Latin in that movie..
You know what?
He can get away from the Indian roles because he's one of the only natives who can look more than just native he has been a middle eastern a Spaniard, a Latino
an Indian and European. -

I saw the show CSI with him in it and he did an accent yet the man who played his brother didn't. I thought that was kind of messed up. If they were brothers as they portrayed, they should have had the same accent. Wierd.
Was he raised on the reservation? If he did, he did a good job of covering up that accent. -

I would think that when you say that Jay doesn't want to do "Native" roles you would mean "Old" native roles such in westerns - older type movie settings. Adam's role is that of an urban indian in todays times.

I don't think he can get away from Native roles. He's native.
I think it's great that natives are playing more main stream type roles that are set during current timelines. Helps defeat alot of sterotypes.
