I agree. Great acting between Mr Todd and Avery Brooks as his father.

It shows he has a great acting range as a character actor. His adult Jake Sisko role was a contrast to his other Trek apperances. He was also great as the Klingon Commander Kurn - Worf's brother, and as a Hirogen hunter on ST: Voyager. Both also memorable performances.
"Jake, you didn't have to do this! Not for me!"
"For you, and for the boy that I was. He needs you. More than you know. Don't you see? We're going to get a second.chance."

I never saw DS9's The Visitor, However he is without question my all-time fav Klingon! They should have tried to incorporate him in those Star Trek TNG Movies. Tony Todd would have been awesome!

Couldn't agree more. Just watched that episode last week and was thinking to myself: "Why the hell isn't this guy getting more roles??"
Seriously, his performance in that episode is among the best I have ever seen on a weekly television show, and definitely the best I've seen on Star Trek. Avery Brooks was also great in this episode, which was basically a showcase for their acting talents - just imagine if they tried to do that story with the 'Enterprise' cast. It would have been painful to watch with most other actors, it was a hard story to pull off without coming off either wooden or overly melodramatic.
In any case, this post pretty much echos my thoughts, but I thought I'd add this: anyone have any theories on why he hasn't gotten better roles? I remember being impressed by his performance in Candyman and perhaps even more so as some veteran soldier that couldn't 7ecsleep, in an X-Files show. He could act rings around most of the puppets that do seem to get juicy roles
          G.

DOES anyone know why he doesn't get better roles? Every time I see him he blows me away. He single-handedly (imo) made Night of the Living Dead 1990 a good film, I can't imagine Candyman would be any good without him, and every interview I see of him blows me away in terms of how well he understands his characters.

You are absolutely correct. I think that "The Visitor" is probably the single best episode of any Trek series, and Tony Todd's performance plays a big part in that.

Indeed. What kills me about television is such a performance can go totally unnoticed, apparently because it happens to be in the science fiction genre.
This episode was Emmy nominated, but only for "Outstanding Individual Achievement in Makeup for a Series". While this indeed may be true it is not what made it so compelling.
At least it was also amoung the Hugo nominees in 1996, and for the right reason ("Best Dramatic Presentation").
