Pan's Labrynth is brilliant. I just wishhe would do more personal stories like this.

He's very talented and ambitious. But if he'd be a genius he could combine "Insanely Entertaining" with "Masterpieces Like Pan's Labyrinth" into one movie. Until he does, I'd reserve the title of Genius for the likes of Steven Spielberg and James Cameron.

While they're certainly directors to be reckoned with, I'm not sure those two guys presently qualify as geniuses in any other than marketing terms. As filmmakers go, I'm thinking the closest to
            genius
level is someone like Christopher Nolan but, that said
If this guy were a genius, it seems like there'd be fewer remakes, reboots and sequels in his list of projects.

While its true his concepts are great, his movies not so much. I'll give Pan's Labyrinth, and even that flags about 3/4 of the way through.

Pan's Labyrinth is good. The rest of his movies arb68en't. He's not a genius, not the genius I was hoping he would be 1+ years ago. He has made so much crap it's absurd

He seems like a style over substance type guy. His movies are fairly boring to me, even though they look pretty. He isn't that good of a story teller.
