I've put mine in alphabetical order, as I couldn't find a way of ranking these women, apart from to say that all 10 of them have, da0in their respective films, blown me away, they were so good:
Annette Bening (Being Julia)
Mia Farrow (Rosemary's Baby)
Katharine Hepburn (On Golden Pond)
Diane Keaton (Annie Hall)
Diane Lane (Unfaithful)
Vivien Leigh (A Streetcar Named Desire)
Laura Linney (The Truman Show)
Melina Mercouri (Never On Sunday)
Michelle Pfeiffer (Love Field)
Liv Ullmann (Autumn Sonata)
And certain women who have just been continually impressive in everything they do include:
Julie Christie
Bette Davis
Sandy Dennis
Ruth Gordon
Kate Winslet -

I just have to say Liv Ullmann was magnificent. Maybe I should say IS, since she is still alive. What makes her one of the very greatest, is that she really was acting. You can rarely know if a person is acting or not, many in a very big degree plays themselves.
Liv Ullmann has a complete different personality than the roles she played. She is intelligent, and I very rarely see people as interesting as she is. I know many people through time have gotten a shock when they found out how she is in real life.
I think some of the lists made here are good, but I don't fancy Kate Winslet or Julia Roberts. I have no idea why they can be on any list! -

And where is Gong Li in all this hubbub? Not for her American movies, but her work with then-husband Yimou Zhang.
One could say the same of Ullmann. In Swedish (and with Bergman) she was one of the best actresses in the world. In English, forget it (but then she had to do crap like 'Lost Horizon' so she can't be totally to blame) -
