Wow. Apparently, Dylan Roof has Internet access in a South Carolina jail.

Her career was still going strong into the late 80's, so her comments couldn't have killed it off in '86.
She Co - starred with carl weathers in Action Jackson in '88.
She was sort of a 80's Cheryl Cole, gorgeous to look at but not much else. Very weak instantly forgetting music. -

That clip of Vanity calling her black father a gorilla was actually up on YouTube for awhile. I watched it and was aghast. It really happened.
That remark may have been a reflection of her personal resentment against her father - or even of black men in general (since her father was a black man, as is Prince - and some women sour on black men after having negative relationship experiences with one or more of them) - but she sure expressed that resentment in one of the worst ways possible. The black people who took strong offense were justified in doing so - especially since she didn't do a very good job of clarifying her remarks in that subsequent Jet article. -

Drugs killed her career and she got super religious wanting really nothing to do with being Vanity again.
I disagree that her comment killed her career but
I agree it was in very poor taste.
She's talking about half of her background and I think most of us have made bad jokes at the wrong place and time. -

For someone who claims he's lost respect for Vanity after her comment, you sure have been following her career, posting videos & 1c84links & stuff. Why waste energy on someone who you felt "disrespected" by?

Because when I made my original post a couple years ago, some of the posters on this thread didn't believe me, and one in fact called me a "liar, so I googled information pertaining to this issue and supplied the links to confirm that what I said in my OP was true.
In regard to me holding some "grudge," no I'm not harboring any bitterness over the racist remark she made back in '86 nor am I losing any sleep at night over it. My point is that her poor taste, crass remark was what led to the demise of her recording career, and here's a link that can confirm that (http://www.craveonline.com/music/954825-denise-vanity-matthews-jan-4-1959-feb-15-2016).
If you're blinded by devotion to her because your a fan girl, a member of her religious congregation or a lesbian smitten by her good looks that's your prerogative. But all I'm doing is spouting truth. -

Her only talent was being very pretty and she was getting older in Hollywood years. Plus, she became a Christian and left the life, too.
I am not doubting her remarks, but I really don't remember any big controversy at the time.
It's not like she was ever a huge star. The only time she was widely noticed was with Prince and then Action Jackson, and even that wasn't a big starring role.
To be honest her career was more due to she had outlived her shelf life than those remarks. -

In spite of what she said, she didn't voluntarily walk away from her career in entertainment. She became an evangelical because it was probably the only means she could make a source of income, much in the same way that Stacey Dash presently works as a troll for FoxNews.
I am not doubting her remarks, but I really don't remember any big controversy at the time.
You may not have been old enough to recount it. -

She blew it when she didn't do Purple Rain. Period! Imagine the buzz around her coming out of that hit movie in '85. The Glamorous Life, Manic Monday were song Prince had written for Vanity 6. They would've been on the Purple Rain tour with him also. She would've been on top of the world at that point if she had just stuck it out a little while longer. Of course she had a drug problem before she even met Prince and it escalated when she left him.

Nah, although I think had she appeared in that movie it would have significantly boosted her career, I wouldn't that her absence from it ruined her career. Bear in mind that the year after PR was released (1984), she appeared in "Last Dragon," which was a major hit and the biggest movie of her career.
