Dear Tina
I'm afraid that I can't help re: "The Time, The Place" But I saw "The Big Sleep" on DVD last night (I have been a fan of Raymond Chandler for a long time, but had somehow never got around to watching it) and was struck by the magnificent performance Martha Vickers gave. It was so natural and spontaneous - hard to believe it wasn't filmed yesterday. So I looked up this page to find out more about this wonderful actress! I will certainly be looking out for other films of hers.
So sorry I can't help - but yes, someone out there is thinking of Martha.

Did your mother ever talk about her role in The Big Sleep, most specifically the rumors that her performance in the original cut was a tour-de-force and that Howard Hawks was forced to cut it down to a very-reduced role due to the jealousy of Lauren Bacall and his desire to keep Bogie happy?

Hi Tina,..
I always liked, "The Big Sleep" starring Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Becall (spelling?).
And always fascinated by, "Carmen" (you mom). She did such a good job in that movie and surprsied that WB did not promote her more.
Yes,thinking about her and she died way to young.
Sorry, can't help you with the movie you're looking for.
Sincerely,
Mike -

oh yeah - PLEASE post pictures of your mom. They are very rare on the net and some of us fans would love to see them. The Big Sleep and The Burglar are two of my fave flicks and Martha an actress I wish we could have seen alot more of. Thanks!

I had the chance to see The Big Sleep last night and found the performance your mother gave simply brilliant. A very good actress, who tragically died far too young. Today I have exactly her age when she passed away. Thinking that everything could be over right now - very sad!
Be sure, your mother is not forgotten. Her fans will always remember her! -

What a coincidence." The Time , the Place and the Girl" is playing right now on Turner Classic Movies. The technicolor is amazing! Your mother looks stunning and her talent as an actress is most evident though I already started another thread about that. I hope you have this movie or can get it soon. I'm back to watching my favorite actress from when I was a kid.

Everyone's being so polite because the OP is the daughter of Martha Vickers, but I dob68n't think it would be out of line to mentioned that she had an intense sensuality that leapt off the screen. The scene in The Big Sleep where she collapsed into Bogey's arms (wearing shockingly short shorts for the day) is sexier than any nude scene they film today.
People never lock their doors in this town.
They will tonight. -

You're probably right about our being polite, Jescci but I also don't think your comment is out of line (& I agree, of course).
Just saw The Big Sleep for the first time, and had to come right to the net to look up that actress that fell into Bogart's arms
Yes, Tina, people are still thinking about your mom I'm sorry she left us all (but especially you & your family) far too young. -

Wow, your mother was an amazing talent. Beautiful and with a true screen presence. Those are some lovely genes you got there
I'm sorry that she left the world, and your family, so early. She'll always be remembered by movie fans.

Hello Tina,
Am watching The Big Sleep right now and came to see who played the pretty Carmen.. Your Mom was a real beauty. You've probably long since found a copy of the movie you were looking for, but if not, there is a copy available on ioffer.com.
I guess it's like looking at clouds. You see one thing and I see another. Peace. -

Tina,
It's been a long time. Sarah is now 17, Lyon is 15. My email address is CSGrafix@aol.com
I hope you have been happy and well. We still live in New Jerseygoing on 12 years now. The Blue Saloon seems a foggy past.
Sorry if I'm stirring up any old ghost's.
You may be wondering how I got here. Well, I've been perusing my old camcorder tapes that I stumbled upon in a box and found performances by MD Hall, Michael Barton, Hunter, Les (the bartender doing Suspicious Minds), Jimmy Vivino, Skip Van Winkle. Also cameo's by Boog, Steve (at the end of the bar with a name plate) Ram and I can hear your voice cheering but no images on film.
Anyway, I remembered your Mom is Martha Vickers and gave it a shot.
I have to admit I smiled when I saw TINAROJAS-1.
