Pops in Dirty Work is my all time favorite Jack Warden role but I also liked him on Problem Child as Big Ben.

NIGHT AND THE CITY, he was great in that movie. See it when you have a chance.

For me, it's a tossup between "The Replacements" and "Run Silent, Run Deep". Also, there was "The Lonely", the Twilight Zone episode.

Definitely USED CARS. But the sadly overlooked SO FINE should be mentioned and hasn't been in this thread yet. Nearly as many great, profane lines as he had in USED CARS: "I Used to ^&%$ like that!" "You're a mature woman, may I use a mature phrase? We call this cheap ^&%%!" and, of course, the great, great line while he observes the streets of Venice. Classic stuff!
SHAMPOO, THE VERDICT and AND JUSTICE FOR ALL also deserve mention, along with his great supporting part in MIGHTY APRHODITE.

I know this might sound morbid but it's not intended to be "Things to do in Denver when your Dead"as Joe Heff the story teller in the malt shop,of course in "U.C's"&"D.W". and a memorable line that I've always remembered why? I don't know. playing Houston as his character in "Escape from Zahrain".Houston:"Yeah,I had a wife and two beautiful children".Laila:"Well, what happened to them?" Houston:"I uhh woke one morning and I ate em up"??!!

"12 Angry Men" from the few movies I have seen. I like the humorous emotion his character had.

                      Spoiler Alert
Let me just mention that the wordless expression on his face in the Verdict when the jury asked whether they were limited in the amount that they could award spoke volumes, was priceless and is one of the top cinematic moments for me ever.

He gave wonderful performances in both the Verdict and 12 Angry Men. Those are the two best courtroom dramas I've seen and Jack Warden was wonderful in both.
Jack Warden comes off as a very likeable person, probably because of a good sense of humor but he was very good in dramatic roles too.

I was going to nominate The Verdict as well. He just added, or brought more to the Newman character with his presence and role.
                          Others I've seen:
                          From Here to Eternity
                          12 Angry Men
                          Brian's Song
                          Shampoo
                          All the President's Men
                          Being There
                          And Justice for All
                          Guilty as Sin

He was first rate as the lead role in the mid 1970's "Police Story" episode titled as "The Watch Commander". Great job, Jack.
He was also great in "Used Cars", an underrated movie, imho.

                                    Worth checking out.

I saw him late last night in 'Raid on Entebbe', a well-made TV movie about Israelis taken hostage by Palestinians in 1976. I started reminiscing about Warden after that. A few great roles and a thousand really good ones for him; I'm a huge fan. He made every movie that he was in better. He was an imposing masculine force on the screen, and he will be missed. RIP.

SHAMPOO was on TCM last night; I forgot how good he was. But I think my favorite Jack Warden role will always be THE VERDICT. He just seemed so believable in that role, it wasn't like acting. Very surprised he wasn't nominated.

How can we forget Jack Warden's role with Paul Newman in the 1982 move: "The Verdict". As the assistant to his down and and out law partner, he performance was authentic and believable. He was the best!
