It was actually rumored for years and still is to this day, that Syd died!!! I mean come on, who do you think started this rumor. Obviously the band.
"Shine On You Crazy Diamond" was written about Syd, who appeared in the studio one day while the band was putting the final touches on
Wish You Were Here
. Pink Floyd performed "Astronomy Domine" on their 1994 tour. Several biographies licensed by the band make mention of Syd's descent into dementia and the fact that he is very much alive. Members of the Floyd guested on Syd's two solo albums.
I don't know where you got this talk that Roger and David are triyng to make people believe that Syd Barrett's dead, but I think you're
way
off the mark. -

They are a combination, Waters was the brains of Pink Floyd, I think he wrote pretty much all the lyrics for most of Floyd's albums, but I don't think he was really fit to be the leader of the band in the earlier days of Floyd, and remember Dave Gilm5b4our replaced Syd. Dave is an awesome guitarist, his guitar licks and voice made the band successful, I think Dave's voice is a lot better, even though I like Roger Waters vocals on The Wall, they aren't as hypnotic as Dave's. One isn't better than the other. They both have fairly succesful solo careers, but Dave is still more or less keeping Pink Floyd alive. Division Bell is a good album, but just a little too nineties, I was hoping it would be more progressive but its still good.

I like them both and buy both of their solo albums. None of their solo work can compare to Pink Floyd, though. Together, they made magic.
I think they both contributed equally but in entirely different ways to Pink Floyd. Roger was clearly the lyrics/concepts genius, Gilmour the musical/composition master. Together they were much greater than apart. They are like two pieces of a puzzle, or like Yin/Yang. -

I love Waters, singing and writing, but I also love Gilmore singing and his guitar works Together they complement each other and together they're perfect but if I had to choose between the two of them I'd have to go for Roger. I loved so much too see them together in Live 8! I wish they would get together again, but I doubt that will ever happen

David's singing rules, especially singing with Rick (like in the song 'Echoes').
Roger's lyrics, vision, and production are the best of all time.
As for the music, it takes all of them to make it work. Roger can write a hell of a riff, David can make it twice as good with his inventive guitar, and Rick and Nick fill in any voids and then some.
Collectively, the best ever.
Seperately, they are only as good as Floyd was with Syd. After Syd and before Roger left was the best band of all time.
And 'The Final Cut' is awesome! It was 'The Wall pt. 2'. If you love 'The Wall', you'll love 'The Final Cut'just not one right after the other. -

If anyone is in doubt about the main man they should read the following article;

Roger comes up with the concepts he's the preacher of the group and spends more time home writing with Pink Floyd in mind. I know what I give to our sound, and he knows it, too. It's not a question of him forcing his ideas on us. I get my ideas across as much as I want to. They would use more of my music if I wrote it.- David Gilmour, 1978
