I personally loved Tom Welling as Clark Kent/Superman, and Henry Cavill as Superman as well.
Tom WellingI'm used to him being teenage to early twenties Clark, but Henry Cavill is great at playing Superman approaching his 30's.
If Tom Welling would have said yes to being Superman in "Man of Steel", then Erica Durance playing Lois should have came as a package deal. They are great together on-screen.
I have nothing against Amy Adamsbut I didn't like her portrayal as Loisshe kinda reminded me of her character she played on Smallville actually.

Oh i guess we will never see the real true superman and that is tom welling.
Now that's some major disrespect to Christopher Reeve.

Honestly, absolutely no disrespect to Tom Welling but Christopher will always be Superman in my eyes as I grew up as a kid and to this day! But I truly adored Tom on Smallville!!!
But on a side note, this dude has developed so gorgeously now, that it makes my eyes hurt! Wowey, wow-wow!!! There is5b4 something in that man's water! LOL!

Word. Can't be a Superman movie without him. But I'm sure he knew it would be the train wreck it turned out to be and that is why he skipped it. He doesn't want any part of that garbage.

He is not Superman of any day. No suit, no superman.

He didn't even need a suit to play superman. Tom just has a aura and confidence and a journey that we took with him to play superman. And looks more like superman then even cavil. For me superman doesn't come from the suit. It come from the person inside which is exactly what smallville did. Im really tired of stupid ass people making up stuff about what welling has said regarding superman. Bottom line is hack Snyder wanted his own dark version of superman and unfortunately that's what we got.

Tom would have been much better in the movie, but I didn't like the plot/writing etc. Amy Adams was poorly cast as Lois Lane, too. Cavill looked good in the weird suit, but wasn't Tom. I found the movie a huge letdown. Except for the very end of Part 2 of the very last "Smallville" episode, Tom played the equivalent of "Superboy/Clark Kent", as re-conceived and rewritten from the original comics, I think. He showed us the growth and maturation of this character into manhood, and I thought he did every part of it perfectly. He even overcame the poorer scripts with his persona and great looks. We didn't see "Superboy" as originally depicted because that wasn't within the scope of the show's concept of "no tights; no flights" (although he did fly briefly in a couple of shows). As has been expressed, I would love to see Tom portray "Superman", but unfortunately he shouldn't because that would surely typecast him. After all, he's already acted in 217 episodes of "Smallville".
