Why isn't he friends with Al Jardine?

I saw Beach Boys documentary a couple of years ago and throughout it I really felt sorry for Al Jardine. He has been friends with Brian since the very beginning and yet it seemed Brian has now cut him off. I don't know what has happened between them but it seems unfair as Al seems like a nice guy. I couldn't give a beep about Mike Love who is constantly suing Brian at every chance he has (even though Mike wrote some clasics in his day) but Al hasn't done anything to Brian. He doesn't even tour with the 'Beach Boys' novelty act Love and Bruce Johnston have these days. At the end of doc Al was saying how he'd love to see Brian again and misses him but doesn't have his number. Obviously Brian hasn't really got time for Al with all the touring and recording but I felt he should of asked Al to sing on the Smile album as Al's still got a good voice (check out his website), Brian doesn't even thank him in the credits.

Brian and Al are cool with each other. The problem is with Mike. Brian and Al are doing a short tour together celebrating the 40th anniversary of 'Pet Sounds.' They'll be at the Beacon Theater in NYC on 11/21 and I have 4th row center seats!

What a great show. Brian opened with "Surfer Girl." Then after about 6 or so songs he introduces Al Jardine to the stage. Al sings "Then I Kissed Her" sounded just like he did in 1965 - no lie! They played the entire "Pet Sounds" album that night as well. Al will begin his own tour pretty soon. He has a date lined up already in Westbury at the end of February and in Ridgefield, CT on March 2nd. Mike's the one missing out. Mike should stop suing everyone and make ammends. It's not too late to do the right thing!

Well, Al was supposed to play with Brian this summer, but he didn't make it to Europe. Supposedly because he has to work on his new solo CD featuring also Brian himself. Who knows what the real reasons are.
Anyway, I doubt that Al was much more loyal to Brian than the others were over the years. -

I think you mean in Oakland, at the Paramount. I didn't hear about any San Francisco shows though I suppose I could be wrong. I saw the show too, awesome evening. I also saw him at Bridgeschool in the late 90s when he was on his first tour in so many years. I didn't really understand how special the opportunity was at that time, but just hearing him sing "Surfer Girl" and "God Only Knows" that night helped me to see a different side of the Beach Boys than just a teenybopper 60s pop band.
Did I not love him, Cooch? MY OWN FLESH I DIDN'T LOVE BETTER!!! But he had to say 'Nooooooooo' -

i think mike is pissed he never got the credit brian got. most prodigies are hated for being prodigies and brian is hated by mike for being gifted while mike is ok but average and there's nothing he can do about it. not everyone is touched by god.

I think he is friends with Al. But they've known each other for like 50 years - relationships in that time will have their ups and downs. He's recording an album with Al and David Marks (and Jeff Beck) and is going on tour with them soon.
