Why are people against her being with Marilyn Manson?

Y'all might not find this funny, but generally when people say things like, "Oh, Manson's a junkie?"; "Oh, Manson's abusive?"; "Who da beep is Marilyn Manson?", it just reminds me how old I am. But, in the case of the young posters on this forum, I was prepared for the "generation gap". See, we used to take turns bringing CDs to work; I brought a Marilyn Manson one. A co-worker said to me, "Woah. Who is that?". I couldn't comprehend this, because - as anyone 30 or older can tell you - Marilyn Manson was a HUGE pop culture icon for years, starting with their 3rd single & video. According to Manson [sorry if this is getting confusing, but for those of you that don't know, "Marilyn Manson" is Brian Warner's stage name AND the name of the musical group which he is the lead singer of], they had so many covers, remixes, and other "sonic projects" for the above mentioned single, that instead of releasing their 3rd single by the
name of the single,
Dope Hat
, it was named
Smells Like Children
, and the video released from this EP
also
wasn't the actual 3rd single, but another song, a cover of the Eurythmics track
Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of This)
.
Their second album was
Antichrist Superstar
, which had the huge single
The Beautiful People
. But, as lotsofevil said, "I'm a big fan of Manson, mostly his 90s work anyway, but that guy is a complete alcoholic and is letting himself go." My only addition would be that he's a massive cokehead as well. That, and the Wikipedia entry for Marilyn Manson's 3rd trip to Edmonton had absolutely NONE of the paraphernalia/stage design described in the article. And no, there wasn't
different
decor there was
NOTHING
on the stage, except for the 5 musicians, a girl that stood near the rear of the stage, handing Manson water bottles every time he beckoned her, and Manson's 3 chins and big ol' gut. Other than that, white lights on a 100% white stage. Woo-hoo.
Oh, and my co-worker. I replied, incredulously, "You're serious? You've NEVER heard of Marilyn Manson? When were you born?" "1990" (which made him 22 at the time, and me realizing I was a 35-year old man trying to be a 22-year old).

I'm currently reading his biography and by his own words, he's faaaaaarrrrr from a nice guy. Self-centered, delusional, sadistic, evil are the first things that come to mind.
There must be something inherently psychologically wrong with any woman who would have a long-term relationship with him. -

Funny. I seem to be the only one the felt the opposite. I didn't think she was good enough for Manson. I don't mean that in a mean way. But I'm a fan and I could see him with Dita and McGowan. But this I never got. She's not even his type. I like her and all, but it didn't make sense to me.

I think people were bothered because when she started dating him she changed her whole look. She started looking A LOT like Dita Von Teese, and before that she had never dressed that way (very dark hair, very pale skin, certain types of clothing) and never gave any inkling that that was a way that she would like to dress. I think people thought maybe he was influencing her to change herself for him. Which is never a good thing in a relationship. I'm not sure what the deal was though when they broke up she pretty much went back to blonde/red hair and not so much of a "goth" look. Maybe she was going though a time when she wanted to change things up and experiment with her looks, etc

It's funny to me that of all the reasons given, I haven't seen anyone say it was because Dita Von Teese cited Manson's relationship with Evan Rachel Wood as being one of the reasons she filed for divorce because she felt their relationship was "inappropriate." Manson has said he was only "friends" with Evan while he was married, and I find that highly unlikely due to the fact that once his divorce was final all of a sudden he realizes his "love" for his "friend" Evan.
I am a fan of Manson (I'm 32, so I was around when he was such a huge icon), and I liked Evan in quite a few of her films but I lost interest in Manson's music when everything became about their relationship. I lost respect for Evan while she was with Manson because I felt she was a home wrecker. Manson lost my interest when he was with Evan because I felt his music suffered and all he wanted to do was flaunt his relationship with Evan. -

Why's everyone picking on Manson so hard. He has a lot more to say that a lot of artists these days. And I personally think he's a great song writer. Just because it's not your thing doesn't mean you have to call it bad. Music isn't black and white.

Because it was creepy and weird. She turned into this weird Goth caricature. He was all like "Every time she doesn't pick up the phone, I cut myself". I mean guys, grow up. They were both weird. I feel bad for Jamie Bell.

THIS. It's the fact that they pretty much acted like that annoying eighth grade emo couple who claim they'll die if their partner so much as glances at someone else. They both seemed a bit pretentious.
The "Heart Shaped Glasses" video was just disturbing to me the first time I saw it. Manson looked like he was taking advantage of Evan. Also, all those fake orgasmsSTOP. -

It's pretty "8th grade" to worry about who celebrities you don't know are dating. Anyway, I kind of like Marilyn Manson. With the possible exception of Emninem I think he was the last big music star to actually scare parents (with some other than sheer banality).
Besides, since she's probably not going to ever date me, I at least get a vicarious thrill knowing she's dating a guy who's even older and more hideous-looking than I am. -

abench123 gives the only valid answer. who cares about age or anything else. she looked way hotter after they got together. he must have been giving her Dita beauty tips or something. Shes starting to not look as hot now that they broke up but shes still is a little hottie.

Because he is a freak with nothing positive to offer her and she is a beautiful, talented young woman with everything going for her.
Many of us feel she could do much, much better than Marilyn Manson and it pains us to see yet another woman which so much going for her make such a terrible choice in a mate.
But they are no longer together, which is a good thing for her. -

As we can see here in the comments, a lot of people reject those who don't fit with the societal norms that were placed in front of them. They don't seem to have the capacity to see more than their narrow vision. Manson is very well spoken and intelligent. He would run circles around the yokels here in the comments.

He also threatened to kill Evan when they were together, reportedly.
Does this make him a decent person with positive character traits?
You seem to have a problem understanding that someone who is "different from the norm" can also be a jerk. -

What was that? I dont know much about her private life but I read an interview with her the other day and it didnt come across that she has any resentment for the guy.
