Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — Ed Wynn

    elgrego99 — 16 years ago(November 01, 2009 01:56 PM)

Ed Wynn is one of those people who had such a unique voice that voice artists began "doing" his voice for characters.
    Wally Gator
Mayor McCheese (from the McDonald's commercials)
    Mummy (from "The Groovie Goolies")
I'm sure there must be a lot more, but those are the ones that come to mind immediately

Richard Sherman who was one of the producers of the Mary Poppins songs, does a damn good impression238 of Ed Wynn in this version of "I Love to Laugh." It was put out by Disney for children's records back in the early 60's
Richard's version has a bit of a British accent to it. Ed's does not. But they are very similar:

Ralph Garman of the podcast Hollywood Babble-on with Kevin Smith does an impersonation and it is hilarious.

I am reminded of Dom DeLuise, particularly in his role as Koosalacoopagoop in Dexter's Lab 😄 They were the best episodes (don't believe I will ever be too old to enjoy cartoons!)

Apparently Alan Tudyk does a decent impression too. He does it in Wreck-it Ralph. I immediately was taken to all the childhood roles I knew him in as well as the impersonators.

I was going to post that. Alan did a great job.

Walter Edmiston impersonated Ed Wynn as Dr. Blinkey on H.R. Pufnstuf.

What a good thread theme. Wynn truly had an iconic voice. Interesting that it found it's way to so many cartoon 'tributes'. I've been watching a few of his '49 TV show episodes. Very nostalgic. He gives a wonderfully heartfelt tribute to his long time friend, performer Victor Moore, in one ep. that's very moving.
