On a steep hill it should roll almost instantly. How not notice the car rolling. Also why would you put in neutral, that

That's the problem with vehicles, they're essenti5b4ally death traps. If one person makes a mistake, it can result in a life or death situation that can essentially put multiple people into dangerous situations. And, to believe we actually made a sport out of this event is just mind-boggling.

That sounds like what happened. The car was running, he got out went down the hill possibly to move something out of the way? and the car started rolling. Depending how steep the hill was, cars can roll pretty fast. So sad. HORRIBLE ACCIDENT. that's all it was. I LOVED Anton Yelchin the actor.
Other than that, Life is a bowl of Palmolive, and I'm s5b4oaking in it. -

The accident was most likely filmed by a security camera so we will know sooner or later what happend.
I have a question about an automatic transmission I rarely drive one and then never use neutral. What is the difference between parking position and neutral when there is a seperate parking break? -

I've seen people in a rush throw open their door and jump out with their car still "rocking" from stopping. I could easily see one start rollingg without the person realizing it. Go to Youtube, you'll find plenty of videos of cars rolling after their owners got out. Not all of them notice right away.

I use to drive a stick until my knees gave out. But inclines are very hard to see if it is a very slight one. You learn that while at traffic lights. A very slight incline will have a car with a stick shift rolling backward in a second. I think he might not saw it coming and when he did he started running from the car and got pinned because the car caught up to him and a place that would stop it a brick mailbox. I am sure that car was still on with wheels turning when the cops found him. Terrible. Or he just did not hear it coming and it crushed him. We really have no description in which was he was facing. I believe this is going to be too gruesome to tell..Or Jeep had got a big lawsuit if he left the hand break on if it was a manual or in Park if it was automatic.

You REALLY think someone would choose this method for a suicide? A freak accident doesn't seem more plausible?
Why do something that, if unsuccessful, would bring about unimaginable pain and life altering disfigurement?
What's going on? What's all this shouting? We'll have no trouble here -

Good question OP, but there's a lot of things to take into account.
What was his neighborhood section like in terms of noise? Was his drive way right on the edge of a decent influx of traffic, where the constant sounds of cars would make it so that he wouldn't hear his own car rolling toward him?
Was somebody mowing the lawn nearby, drowning out the mild noise of his car rolling toward him?
Was somebody near him playing loud music?
Did Anton have an iPod in his ears?
Was it windy enough out to cause some noise or distraction to take away Anton's concentration?
ETC ETC.
Bare in mind that a car rolling (How fast did it roll???) isn't going to make near as much noise as if someone was pressing on the gas.
Sh***y way to go. -

The ignorance is mind blowing. A car rolling in neutral is not loud. Ask your non common sense self thisIF HE HEARDIT, DON'T YOU think he'd HAVE AVOIDED IT?
wow, just seriously wow. Use your head man. Tell me you're not that ignorant. -

people slip up. there are only so many hours in the damn day so you are in a rush, you live in a crowded city with far too many people you have to get your damn mail and probably get to your next damn appointment because you are an in-demand actor who may not be one day so you can't screw that up so you cut corners where you shouldn't and you end up paying the price. life is far too hard. for everybody.
