whats this i hear about zappa being in a Monkees tv episode and in their movie 'Head' ?(p.s what a bizarre choice of title for a Monkees film! although i know its not actually about giving head). i wouldnt have though he would have been the type of counterculture artist to feauture in a mainstream show like the monkees. the mans such a contradiction.

        The Monkees are hilarious.
Head is a great movie, too. You should check it out.

I remember seeing that once, I might even have it tacked on to the end of an old videotape. I seem to remember something concerning the demolition of a car.
          Surreal, very strange.

Zappa's destruction of the car is actually described as being his 'latest composition' and I think a sped up version of Mother People plays in the background while he hammers it. This was towards the end of the Monkees TV show and they seemed to stop caring what their audience thought, instead invighting more challenging artists on to the show, hence Zappa and in another episode, Tim Buckley. Zappa seemed to appreciate the Monkees - perhaps because they were honest about themselves, both in their teenybopper phase and later, when they became aware of their status as record company mannequins.
